what is an allergy and how it happens. an allergic reaction occur against a polypeptide or a protein inside the body in which the immune system consider this organ as foreign. hence when we eat something that cause food allergy, it is the product of digestion absorbed at the level of the samll intestine that cause this allergic reaction. so when your digestive enzymes breaks down the food into smaller particles, these small particls will cause this allergic reaction

It may not be the iodine. You can be allergic to the protein, causing an inappropriate immune reaction (which is what allergy is.) I'm allergic to fish and CAN have topical iodine and iodine dye. The itchiness and other symptoms are from the release of histamine from your immune system.

the protein is recognized by your body's immune system by binding to receptors and is mistaken for an antigenic or harmful compound. the body then mounts an immune response, many times an inflammatory one that is caused by the release of histamine from the granulocytes in the skin- the histamine causes redness, swelling and itching.

I believe it's the protein....it's a new large body bandage that the military uses with shellfish in it and they were saying that if u r allergic to shellfish don't worry because they take the protein that causes allergic reactions out.....

an allergy is your body being oversensitive to something. In reality you could become allergic to anything. Sometimes its from overexposure, sometimes its genetics, and sometimes it just happens.
