Absolutely not! That's barbaric.Locking them away for life to keep them from hurting any other child is fine.Just because they act like animals doesn't mean that we have too.

I think that public castration would make us no different than other countries that publically execute criminals. I do however believe in chemical castration. Chemical castration would cause the person to not have the same level of impulses as well as to keep them from molesting children.
We can't always take the most extreme measure in punishing people. We have to understand that most have a reason for what they do. Sure, molesting children is among the worst of crimes that a person can commit, but in some cases, chemical changes in a person can stop the crime.
Public punishment is more of a reward for the public - not so much a way of keeping crime from happening. What about all of the pedophiles who never get caught? How is public castration helping us with them?

I would have to say, if there was no doubt that the one in question was a pedophile - I think castration would definitely help the problem. I don't know about public because I would never want to see that. But that's what psychologists are always saying, sexual predators are the ones getting out of jail earlier and are the most likely to have repeat offenses, which is scary for parents. So in answer to your question, I would have to say yes to castration - but only if there was no question as to the accused's guilt. And if for some reason they kept offending even after the castration, I would say cut off their fingers then.
If this sounds mean or crude, I apologize - but I am a parent.

No it shouldn't. Personally, I think their lives should be ruined the same way that they ruined a child but, public castration would just give all of the sick people a reason to do it themselves without use of the judicial system. We would have that whole why wait for the justice system to do it's job thing going on. Should they be castrated?? Probably, but do you really think that would stop them from looking at children and using other things to harm children?? Probably not. So, I am thinking desert island?? And some pedophiles are women...what would you do then??

I agree with the idea of public castration. It would humiliate the pedophiles in question in an extreme manner. This may help to curb the abuse on minors. This is assuming that castration as a deterrance works. It may not. Pedophiles have something wrong with them to begin with. Any deterrance may just be ignored. Who knows, I would wager for some it would be a means of obtaining the "spotlight".

Hmm. I don't think a sight like that would benefit any children watching, considering it would be a public event.
However, chemical castration would be one solution.
You have to remember, although there are some terribly sick individuals in this world, there are also those who cannot define right from wrong due to mental disorders and such.
What about teenagers or young adults, who have known nothing but sexual abuse their whole lives, seperate from society and it's moral obligations? THEY do not know it's wrong that they repeat their experiences with others, until they discover social laws.
I don't believe things like this can be simply resolved by execution or other drastic measures. There will always be those who will be unjustly dealt with, as a result of such 'black and white' thinking, those who would suffer abuse from those who claim to be preventing such abuse.

What good would it do? I mean if we are going to do it IN PUBLIC it should serve some good as well. I realize it wouldn't exactly do any harm, since face it they deserve it, but what GOOD does it do. If this was Castration I wouldn't argue that it should do good, I would say well no harm so it is fair. These people are alot like rapists. It is more over the power then the sex. Even if you killed their sex drive they would do it. That is because they aren't as intrested in the sex. Also what will we do to the WOMEN who are pedophiles? Publicly sew their legs shut?

Public Castration is not an option for a civilized society. The pedophile should be locked up along with castration, but not public. We are not barbarians.

No. I believe that is cruel and unusual, and seems more vengeful in spirit than necessary. For that reason it would be wrong.
Execution, on the other hand, would be the correct thing. Hanging or a bullet to their brain will solve both their personal problem and society's problem. It also solves the recidivism issue, and is a tacit acknowledgement that this sick proclivity is not treatable.

It is my belief that people are not born good or bad but that they do good or bad things based on their experiences. As such I cannot justify hurting others.
I believe that hurting people with conditions like peadophilia only serves to de-humanise them and distance them from other people.
Hurting them is often an act of revenge and not concerned with justice.

That's a terrible idea. I don't want to see their dangly bits under any circumstances.
The best and most environmentally friendly solution is to squash the whole paedophile flat in a big old heavy-duty die-casting machine then mix the mush with similar organic fertiliser.
