Hamptons or Atlantic City could be fun. Try Providence, RI. It's beautiful and it's a switch from NY for sure.

Coastal Connecticut, along the Long Island Sound is really amazing. Route #1 has some beautiful little fishing villages with amazing sea food.

Palisades Mall in Upstate New York. The ride is only an hour or so, but the scenery is great, especially during the fall, and the shopping mall is great!

Savannah, GA
Very historic. The beach, lots of seafood and good regular food, tours, etc.
Its truly a beautiful city with lots of space for rest and relaxation. but also a place to have fun.
Hope this helps.
