I agree clean the cage and if your feeding your bird fruit they are most likely attracted to that.you don't have to stop just take an empty water bottle cut the top off put an over ripe bannana in the water bottle and stick the lid back in drinking opening first surprisingly the fruit flies will go in and get trapped make a couple of these and put them around the cage and any obvious areas they might me

Sounds like you aren't changing the food properly. Any fresh foods should be removed within a couple of hours because it starts to spoil.
Clean the cage please.

Do NOTTTTT put the 8-1 protector in that cage. It causes respiratory problems. It's a medication that is constently breathed into the birds lungs and they WILL die. Those things should not even be sold.
Do your research on these things people before you use them.

I also have a cockatiel, you can purchas what they call 8-1 bird portector at Wal-Mart or any pet supply, just put it on the cage, and cover your bird up at night, it has a slight smell and the bird will not bother it. It really works. Good Luck

I agree. Remove any people food and make sure everything is clean. Maybe even put some food out for them away from the cage to distract them.

Take your bird to a vet and have it professionally washed and groomed. It sounds like the bird has a smelling problem and that is what is attracting the flies!!!

Good Luck!!

my rainbow lorikeet only eats nectar and fruit cocktail ( and other various snack foods ) she too has problems with fruit flies... I've found that taking her cage outside and hosing it down well then using a weak bleach solution , re rinsing well helps.. but eventually they come back ...

take the cage apart and scrub it. do not use any chemicals just scrub it and rinse it really well. Check and see if you have old fruit sitting in a fruit bowl Check and see if you have a house plant that is going into root rot.
