Jkootar, if you could explain about your religion to others, then you could defend your stand.

I've read two books about Mormons- "No Man Knows My History" by Fawn Brodie and "Visions of glory : a history and a memory of Jehovah's Witnesses" by Harrison, Barbara G.. Both of these are by ex Mormons, Brodie read herself out of the faith researching her book, much like I thought myself out of being being a Catholic.
My other source on Latter Day Saints, comes from church members themselves. One guy who was a Reformed Latter Day Saint (These are the people who got a premature revelation on polygamy right?) Told me about the golden tablets and the angel Moroni and the Urm and the Thrum (?). I said "So where are these Urm and Thrum now?" "The angel took them back to heaven." "How convenient." I said.
Now don't take offense- They tried to make a Catholic out of me and I had much the same reaction to the transubstantiation. (Don't ask)
The rest of the populace may have a good laugh at the baptism of the dead, but I ask some of you- Have you ever tried to explain pre and post millennial dispensationalism and the Rapture to a Jewish person?
Being an atheist I have the same reaction to the fantastic in all religions. I'm an equal opportunity scoffer. It's people who believe the world is 6000 years old or that St. Lucy cured their eye infection and harp on you for believing that tobacco is bad for you. Oh wait. You got that one right. But that was just dumb luck. By the way how do you get up so early with out coffee? I'm on my third cup and just beginning to feel human.

The Mormons claim to follow four books:
the Bible (in as far as it is correctly translated - meaning any part they don't like, they just brush off).
The Book of Mormon
The Pearl of Great Price
Doctrines and Covenants.

Above and beyond this are the "revelations" to the church presidents over the years. There's a lot of material to go through.

For instance:
Supposedly, Elohim discussed the plans for earth with his two oldest sons, Jesus and Lucifer, while on their space station around the star Kolob. A war started, and the "spirit children," who had not yet been given bodies, were split in three parts. Those who served Elohim were given beautiful white bodies; those who served Lucifer were doomed to have no bodies, and those who remained neutral were given cursed dark-skinned bodies.
Joseph Smith claimed that he went to the moon, and saw six-foot tall people there dressed like Quakers.

Joseph Smith was a convicted con-man before being given the Book of Mormon. I have more than enough reason not to believe him.

Mormans? Is that like Mormaids?

I studied religion & have been in Utah many times.

Mormons love to talk about their religion when asked. Otherwise, they don't mention it. Which increases my respect for them given most of them have a solid belief in their religion.

If I was going to practice Christianity, I would be a Mormon.

But, atheism is the only logical choice, so, I guess I'll remain an atheist.

People get strange ideas from others. Word of mouth can do a lot to disseminate incorrect information. TV Shows which try to make jokes impart also incorrect information.

Why worry? Be happy in your religion and stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks...whether it is correct or not.

For all these people that think they've studied religion and know everything, know this. Studying & knowing a religion is one thing. Knowing the Bible is one thing. Knowing the author is another.
