I was ticketed in Washington County Florida for having window tint of 18% on the front doors. The car is a 2000 model. I purchased it in Oklahoma from a Honda dealership. I have 30 days to get the retinting done. Is there any way I can make the dealership pay for the retinting (since it doesn't meet Oklahoma window tint regulations)? Can I get an extension on the comply-by date?

clarification: the tinting does not meet Oklahoma or Florida regulations. it was sold to me in this manner. so in essence, the dealership sold me a car that was not legal, right? maybe. hopefully.

You know D, I got sick of fighting with the cops about my front window tint. I lost the battle and finally removed all the tint from the front windows. Now, I just hold up my middle finger to block the sun. This works well too. Also, it's dangerous to have front tint. What if you just got done burnin one and a cop pulls you over cause of your window tint. Anyways, your beautiful, people want to see you clearly?

You probably will be stuck with the fine. I recently purchased my vehile and verified with the dealership on the tint reqs for my state. The Front window is usually the problem. I would take tint off and not retint but that is totally up you. If it was a certified vehicle then you more than likely should receive some type of reimbursement but probably based on OK prices and not Florida. If the car was sold used as is it was up to you as a consumer to research this info. Good Luck.

I thought that when the tint came on the car directly from the factory "factory tint" that they could not make you remove it.

Illegal tinting may mean fines

If you have factory tinting on your car windows, you’re probably safe.

If you have after-market tinting, you might be risking a traffic ticket, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William County Police Department spokeswoman.

Check out the links below they have some good articles. The second link has tinting laws for all states.I think you would just need something from Honda stating it was factory tint, if so I think the ticket will be dropped at court. They cannot force you to remove factory tint on a new car.

Most likely, you won't be able to get them to pay for it. It's buyer beware. Dealerships sell cars all the time with modifications that won't meet various state regulations. What you do with the car after you buy it is on you.

Things like dark tint, neon lights, nitrous, ETC. , are "legal" as long as you are not driving it on a public road. (How stupid of the dealership to assume you wouldn't drive your car on the road.) That's their out. Unfortunately, your name is the one on the ticket.

I can assure it is not factory tint. You are stuck with the removal. Window tint is real easy to remove. If you want to retint then I suggest you check your state laws.

Sorry. You are most likely out of luck on both accounts.

No, you can't. The ticket is in Florida. Evidently they have different laws there.

You are stuck with what you have. Buyer beware. You will have to pay to get it corrected.
