I think u mean to say - " according to ancient books, sex is only for producing heirs".
You got to have good knowledge before u can interpret what the religious books meant to say. What the books probably meant to say must be - " sex is a part of life, and not an end in itself. Sex is not everything. There are other things to enjoy and care for in this world".

Which ancient religious book are you referring to? Religion is never ancient. Sex between man and woman is natural normal divinity. Procreation is part of that divinity. No book ancient or modern and no religion in the world proclaims such absurd theory about sex and procreation.

god is the author of the sanctity of marriage one man with one women, he created eve from the rib of Adam so he would not be alone. sex between man and wife was never intended for procreation alone i can only speak from a biblical standpoint.
