I don't know what signifies quality such as fabric, pattern, style, etc.
I need someting large such as 8 X 10.
I am not into busy patterns, so most likely the typcal oriental rugs would not be for me.

If you want a long term rug, wool is the best. A large one will not be cheap and be sure to buy a pad for under the rug, it will extend the life of it.

As far as pattens and style, that is a personal decision. What do you like? Don't go with a very light color or you'll be cleaning it all the time.

Try IKEA. We got a great rug there seveal years ago that has held up very well.Cool pattern also. If not near IKEA, try local building supply like Menards, Home Depot, etc. They also have rugs of many sizes and styles.
Look for a tight weave on the back and I would avoid fringe if possible because it is a pain to vacuum.

I bought my first area rug at Walmart for $60. It is still with me, after many moves, and its very durable!! It is very simple, thick alternating rectangles of black and gray.
They have many different styles and colors to suit your taste, although the one I chose is very difficult to vacuum because of the thickness of it, so make sure to keep your eye on something thin and smooth..

on your human being good and peace of options, purchase a vacuum with the very suited suction. I actually have a cat who sheds a lot hair you'll imagine he might want to be bald by technique of now. i purchased a rather less costly device and it is ineffective, formerly I vacuum, I brush the carpets with a hand scrubbing brush because i recognize my vacuum gained't %. up the hair that by some skill weaves itself into the pile. Be warned!

If you want a cheap one...like if you have kids or pets...that are going to ruin it anyway. Walmart has many different colors of 8x10 rugs for 20.00. It vacums easily...
