I'm always coming across people who are very proud of the fact that they were "wasted" that weekend or had too much to drink and "it was awesome." Having never been drunk, is it really that fun and is it fulfilling? Or is it just something everyone says is cool because everyone seems to say that it's cool?

They do not know how to find other things enjoyable and they can not admit they are very boring without booze

This is a good question.

A few months ago I would of agreed that getting drunk is stupid, and that I'd rather go the bar have a couple of drinks but still be fine and remember everything that happened the next day.

However now I must say that just "partying" is great. You realy do have a much better time if you get drunk, but by drunk I mean not lying on the floor, or stumbling around. But by not worrying about stuff and just having a good time, hitting the dance floor, and making out with girls (only hot ones though)

However the problems arise when people do stupid things when they're drunk like drive. We always have someone to drive unless we're just going to walk home (it should take 20 minutes but it took an hour and a half last time)...but its fun hanging out so we don't mind.

Also there are people that take it to far and turn into alchoholics, which raises more issues.

The main thing is, is to have fun with your friends though, because getting drunk alone is a pretty pathetic thing to do.

Having gotten drunk and wasted a lot in my miscreant youth, I can honestly say it is a waste of time and is just plain stupid.

Getting drunk regularly is a sign of having a serious drinking problem. The problem is when you seek that 'buzz' - you should take that as a warning that you need to stop drinking.

I've unintentionally gotten drunk twice in the past 6 years, and did not enjoy it either time. I've since been very careful about my intake, and I will stop drinking when I reach a point where I feel a loss of control. I generally have 3 or 4 drinks over the course of a Friday or Saturday evening, so am never out of control.

It depends on your reasons. I think that some people drink because the pain in their life is too great to deal with and so they want to be wasted to block it out... this is the unhealthiest form of drinking. Some others want to be wasted so that they stood out from the crowd (as ridiculous as that sounds if everyone was getting wasted), but it's like if you were the "MOST" wasted, then you entertained everyone with being a total idiot, you become the center of attention and some people find appeal in it that way, which is probably the second most unhealthy way to drink. Others do it as a status thing, like "look how much I can drink without passing out or throwing up... I'm so badass I can handle all of this poison and still be conscious".

All of the reasons I listed are really quite immature, but they are imbedded within our culture and many college students usually use the last two, and alcoholics suffering quietly use the first one. People who are so proud about being wasted will grow out of it, or if they don't then they are immature. Eventually, they'll realize they can drink in moderation and don't have to binge drink... and that binge drinking makes them feel like crap more times than it makes the feel good and its novelty will wear off.

Getting drunk is fun, but one can get drunk without getting totally wasted. No one really has to ever have more than 4 drinks I think... you can totally experience being drunk even after 2 or 3 without getting so wasted that you act like an idiot, get sick, or pass out.

Everything in moderation.

Mostly I think people get "wasted" just to fit in and try to be cool. Personally I think that it is over doing it when you are drunk every night just because you have nothing better to do. If people had a job and did something productive with their time they wouldnt be able to get drunk every night. It is a very irresponsible thing to do especially when they drive after drinking. They dont have the right to drink and drive with my family on the road. Seriously though, being "wasted" isnt that great. It is just something that people do to fit in.

I hate listening to people talk about that. Are they also proud that they drove home that way and could've killed someone. I work with a lot of younger people and they are always saying they were wasted. Back in college I definitely had my fair share of being drunk and having fun. But there comes a time when you need to grow up. And most of those times were at parties and everyone slept over so noone drove or we had DD's. I think if you'd like to go out and party to see what all the fuss is about please have a way home so you don't drive.

Do they remeber anything about when they were wasted what they did etc. It is not cool. You can be seriously injured or killed if driving or you can kill someone else. If you can't remember what happen what is something serious like rape or whatever happens and you can't remember is that a good thing. Alcholo is vert addicting and the early you start the harder it gets to stop. So if you have never been drunk try to stay that way.

If your definition of wasted is dead drunk till losing consciousness, then I can't answer your question. I never get wasted/ dead drunk, more of like there, just being drunk, but not overly.
And for getting drunk (only), because this gives one a feeling of high. It's a temporary shot of happiness while you lose all abandon and get crazy and be merry. Light headedness and a momentary fleeting moment of happiness when you get drunk. Guess that's what keeps most peeps glued to alcohol. And trust me, it does very look appealing when you are down and depressed. And in the midst of hopelessness and just looking for that fleeting moment of happiness. and it's what I found when I lost my dad to cancer suddenly. But get over it and move on, alcohol in the long term corrodes your liver.

It's not cool, dude. It's a peer thing, stay clear, follow your own path and do not get carried away with what others say is "cool". Stay true your own values and what makes you feel good. Getting wasted all the time can lead to drinking to escape reality and if ones at that point their headed toward serious alcoholism. If one drinks to much because they drink too much, that's like eating because your fat and your fat because you eat too much. It's a vicious circle.

i don't see the appeal, i guess it's basically and immature, macho thing (though it's depresisng to see how many girls are at it too). i enjoy a drink like the next person, i enjoy it for the flavour and getting a little less inhibited certainly doesn't do any harm, but i hate being drunk. as soon as i feel i'm getting drunk i switch to orange juice. i hate being drunk ebcause it sort of closes you off from the world, you're in that fuzzy cocoon of intoxication and i really don't like feeling that way, i like to feel life the way it is.

I'm with you. I am embarassed if I have one too many and start yapping away uncontrollably about nothing. Not cool to be wasted, I think. All you get is a hang over and broke the next day.
