hi Flowergirl, i could propose you to not get placed off with the aid of the appearances. Buddhist Teachings are unfastened. All you like is a humble heart, to learn. regrettably, temples & meditation centres are institutions, and so might desire to stay to tell the story. Giving is seen good, yet by no ability obligatory. Any quotes for courses and so on could I assume be saved to a minimum, and in basic terms a sprint cover fee. A temple could provide you a extra rounded view, than a meditation centre, i think of. try occurring an afternoon whilst there's a verbal substitute, and probably some team prepare. try & make acquaintances & don't be afraid to ask questions. : ) superb needs, Arjuna XX

There is one in Colindale, on the Kingsbury Rd (NW9) but it is culturally very Sinhalese. There is the Jamyang Centre near the Elephant and Castle. But the two Buddhist communities that are culturally Western are the FWBO ( www.fwbo.co.uk ) and the Tibetan Buddhists led by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso ( www.meditateinlondon.com ). The FWBO is based in Bethnal Green and has branches in Holloway (72 Holloway Rd) and Paddington. Geshe Kelsang's people are based in Golders Green (Heruka Centre, 13 Woodstock Rd) and also in Wimbledon.

Wat Buddhapadipa Temple, Wimbledon, London. This was the first Buddhist temple in the United Kingdom. It was set up with the objective of creating a centre for the dissemination of theoretical and practical Buddhist teachings in Europe.

Depends on what Buddhist direction....
For example, Nichiren Daishonin (Japanese) is organised in the UK by Soka Gakkai International UK. They have a "Temple" (looks more like a small castle!) called Taplow Court, which is obviously in Taplow just outside London.
