It may not be a tranquilizer you need, rather, a stimulant, or more sleep.
Irritability can be caused by a wide variety of things... and the drugs you're taking can cause the mind to relax a little.
I would recommend taking a naturaly stimulant like a combination of Ginseng or Gingko Biloba... and maybe some Licorice Root. They're slower, longer term stimulants than the standard Coffee or Red Bull (which add to the edginess anyway)
Good luck!

If you suffer from anxiety your best bet is to see a counsellor and talk through the things that make you anxious. They're not always obvious to you I realize, but something is clearly bothering you. Sometimes they are things which seem to be totally unconnected with your anxious times but everything is interwoven in our lives, and it can be very productive and healing to talk about your life! You could even join a peer counselling group and learn to counsel other people too. Anyone can learn! Good luck, hope you are able to give the pills up soon, but don't go cold turkey, that can hurt you. I would suggest you do not see a psychiatrist, they are too much into drugs and shock and not enough into listening!

No. Not that I know of. Xanax is very powerful. Have you tried Zoloft or Paxil? Keep taking your meds, but also try to do some things that make you feel good about yourself, like a bowl of strawberries with lots of whipped cream on top, like a spa day, anything that you like to do. Help me get over my anxiety attacks. Have someone hold you or be near your when you're going thru this.

Check with your doctor. Ask him to recommend something over the counter. He may feel the medicine you are taking now is the best for you. My doctor lets me decide if I want prescriptions or over the counter meds if they all do the same thing.

Try drinking chamomile tea every day. It is a relaxant, and shouldn't interfere with the medication you are already on.

Just try to relax and meditate. It'll help you much more than stuff with ingredients you can't even read.
