My daughter said she gets rid of her eggs,If the date said best if used by 8-14-06. Said they are not good after that date. Even if she only had them 1 or 2 weeks.

Put the eggs in a sink full of cold water. If any of them float, they are bad & should be thrown out (without breaking the shell!-it's stink!), and any that sink but then "stand up" on the bottom should also be tossed, but the ones that sink to the bottom and lay on their sides should be fine to eat.

Go to www.eatbydate.com and check out the plethera of information about eggs. My eggs are stamped with a Sell By Date, which is the store shelf life date, NOT necessarily the Use By or Expiration Date. The float checking method answers above are mostly correct. However, while a fresh egg lays on the pan bottom and a bad egg hovers in water, an older, yet usable egg will bob it's large end up, yet the smaller point end will stay on the pan bottom. Fresh egg whites are cloudy, and become more clear with age. Bad egg whites will be pinkish or iridescent. Please check out the www.eatbydate.com website. You will be AMAZED at all the information and supporting links. You'll be SURPRISED at how much there is to know about eggs (or any other food you wish to research there!!). The margins have fun food items to click on which coincide with the time of year.......season, holiday, etc. Add this web address to your favorites and use it often!

Easy.
1) Fill a bowl with water. If the egg floats, then toss - that means the inside has shrank and the empty space has filled with gas. Not fresh.

2) Properly refrigerated, an egg should last a month in your frig.

But in my opinion, for quality, i'd toss the egg after 2 weeks. Or make some crappy scrambled eggs and sauce it up with ketchup to hide the poor quality.

I've always heard 2 weeks ... but honestly I've used them a good bit later than that, and they were always fine. And expiration dates are always very conservative, probably to protect the company. If the exp date says 8-14-06, I would imagine they'd be fine a week or so after that.

Properly refrigerated eggs are good up to 4 to 5 weeks.

Crack the egg open and smell it. If it does not smell like anything (aside from the slight smell that eggs already possess) then it is most likely okay. When in doubt, throw them away and buy new ones. Better safe than sorry.

Hens will lay an egg an afternoon. geese generally in basic terms in spring. in case you do not consume the eggs you may not hardship-free boil them and feed them back to the chickens. not hardship-free boil the eggs, cool them after which destroy them open and placed them the place the hens will discover them. They love eggs. they do not realize it replaced into their very very own little ones!! in case you do not have a chicken or a drake, the eggs are actually not fertile and could in no way hatch.

if you trust the distributor , eggs are good for one week past the expiration date on carton. some distributors however, mix older eggs with fresh eggs, so it's hard to tell...

If I have had mine for a while, I crack one in a bowl, if it stays together it,s good. If the yellow breaks by itself, toss them
