Even when some religions have even more violent histories than christianity...

it's quite the opposite in countries like china where christians are the one who everyone else is trying to cram in a corner and when evolution is crammed down peoples throats in public schools.

Because Christians have a tendency to try to force their particular religion onto others. The "chip on the shoulder" is a response to having been forced into Christianity, largely, from childhood until they were free to choose a religion for themselves.

Pagans will whine and complain that "our ancestors were burned at the stake and cruelly tortured to save their immortal souls" forgetting that their ancestors also had a tendency to feed Christians to lions for sport.

Remember Karma my Pagan buddies, and The Three Fold Law Wiccans ;) As long as you're clinging to the past instead of learning from it you're stuck in the Karmic cycle....

See above answer. Many Christians are intolerant of things that are not of their religion. This intolerance continues today as evolutionists are harrassed as "monkey-girl" and students are coerced into reciting a pledge to the christian god.

Naturally, Christians don't see what's wrong with this pledge, but if it were a pledge under allah or zeus, it'd have been pulled long ago (never would have been added to the pledge in the 1950's in the first place). Tolerance means letting people believe what they want to and not trying to convince them that they're wrong, or wishing an eternity of damnation upon them for their beliefs. Unfortunately, most die-hard christians don't know how obnoxious these actions can be, since they're not subjected to this treatment from others. (how many times have you been accosted by someone preaching conversion to buddhism or hinduism while walking down the street, or at your home?)

So yeah, a lot of people have a chip on their shoulder against those people who feel that freedom of religion means freedom to practice _their_ religion, and to hell with everyone else.

Right off the bat, the argument that other religions might have more violent histories than Christianity bugs me. You can always find someone who was worse; doesn't make you any better.
I'd like to know who, exactly, you're talking about--and you must consider that in this country, there is a decidedly Christian slant to things. You don't even notice it very much if that's your belief system, but when it isn't, one does get tired of having it in your face all the time. That can cause a b it of a chip on the shoulder, although personally, I try to be accepting of all religions equally, because personally, I think they're all equally incorrect but I understand that the people who practice these religions seem to need them and believe in them. As long as they're not trying to force it on me or killing people in the name of their religion, I don't care if they want to worship dairy products, major appliances, or Pat Sajak.
