Have a look at genesreunited website - it's free until you want to contact some of the people on there, then there's a charge.

The other way to do it is by using birth, marriage and death certificates of as many relatives as you can. Once you have these you can check online at the Census and through Somerset House.

There is a large free database at http://www.familysearch.org but I know many people have misgivings about supplying information to this database. I am not a follower of this faith and dont really have an opinion either way.

You can also visit the Birth Marriages and Deaths offices in the regions where your family originate, as well as Church records. Usually old aunts, uncles, parents and grandparents are the best source to get you going.

Good luck :)

Yes: Have a look at Genes Reunited, and then look somewhere else. They advertise that they're free, but if you want to find anybody past the relatives you already know about (usually your Grandparents), surprise surprise - oh dear, you suddenly find that you "have to buy credits", and even if you don't get to use them up in time, they expire (along with your cash) after ONE WEEK.

It's not something that you can buy you need to start researching the information ask your Mum & Dad and any other family members then buy yourself a programe or register with genes reunited and start compling the information be warned tho will likely to take a number of years if you are going to do it properly

if you have a ma or da still alive, start with them... autns uncles? Grandparents? Great Grandparents?

Get all the facts, start without self at the top, and work your way back... it's really interesting... done it a long time ago now, but it was very nice to do.

Unless someone in your family has already done one, I don't think this is something that will just magically appear. Its painstaking and time consuming.

you can go to the centre to look for what you need. You have to pay if you want copies of certificates.
