When we sing together there is tune and rhythm to keep us co-ordinated. When speaking we don't have these cues so the easiest thing to do is to go for a very bland and neutral tone and rhythm. Over time, of course, this gets reinforced and so becomes the normal and accepted way to do it.

If you fancy changing it, it will probably require both a way of saying it together that could be offered as an alternative and also a chance to learn to do that together...

Not me. I am currently reading a book called "The Creed" and it is a great explanation of how the Creeds came about and what they are for.
