If the tower of Babel story is true, should Christians learn other languages?

My understanding of the tale is that God caught all the people building a tower so that they could climb to Heaven. He didn't approve, and smashed it down. To prevent a repeat, he split the land apart, and gave each set of people a different language.

Now, what that tells me, is that God is against globalised co-operation. Therefore, are Christians allowed to learn foreign languages, or even use Yahoo Answers?

All the people were split and giving different languages and because they couldn't understand each other went different directions! Starting new life's other places with new languages! There are times in the bible when people were given the holy spirit and talked in "tongues." "Tongues" meaning different languages and not some heavenly tongue people will have you believe when they start babbling in church. Being blessed with the ability to Speak in "tongue" was solely for the purpose of preaching Gods word to any and everybody no matter what language they talked.

God is not against other languages - as you can see he created them! Most of Jesus followers throughout the biblical accounts spoke several languages, so they could spread the good news.
The reason they started building the tower of babel, is for fear that God would scatter them over all the earth, they didnt want Gods rulership, they wanted to celebrate themselves as a nation.
Jehovah saw that this is what they began to do and there would be "nothing they may have in mind to do that will be unattainable for them."
So he saw fit to disperse them by his means, as opposed to allowing them their own headship - which is the craving of sinful mankind, the abuse of free will.
So in the case of the Bible and of God, it is not wrong to speak in tongues, or to communicate, he merely meant for his purpose to be fulfilled, and that is for mankind to poulate the entire earth.

I think it was a slow down in globalisation , i think you're right. It might be that God was allowing more time for more people to come back to him. If you believe all the stuff about the Illuminati then it could be true. I actually think humanity is devolving time is speeding up at the same time at this massive evolution of technology. Wrong you have mis-translated and the Bible carry's a death sentence on adding and taking away from his word. It was nimrod who built the tower, so he could climb to the top and be nearer to God, then he shot an arrow at it . it was a case of 'up yours' In order to stop it from being built he confused their language.
