Nostradamus was not a Christian nor a Catholic - he was a gifted one ! The Church did not mess around with him - so they said that it was God who gave these powers to him !

Good point.
The fact that the Bible persisted and has more adherents could easily be due to some simple, small event that has no other significance. Famous examples are the relatively small events that resulted in the VHS standard gaining popularity while Betamax disappeared, and those that resulted in the U.S. standard rail gauge.
The most likely culprit, though, is the fact that the Bible had (as you point out) a 1500 year head start, during which time it developed its defenses - including the book burning you mention (with some significant exaggeration, I might add).

Religions use emotional arguments. You'll find that when people talk about their belief, it is peppered with emotionl. "God is love", "The wrath of God", even "faith" is belief based on emotion.
Humans have been emotional animals far longer than they have been rational ones. Vague books that claim some supreme source are very convincing for this reason. If someone says, "I think you should do this", that doesn't carry much weight. However, if they can say "God says here that you should do this", that is much more convincing. If you can make people feel guilty for not doing it, so much the better.
The Bible was written with this in mind. There is so much "fear this", "feel guilty for this", plus vague rewards, that it becomes a useful tool in promoting religion. Nostradamus' work doesn't have that advantage. It wasn't written to play on emotions.
