Depression is more openly reognised as a health issue...
there have always been stresses, hassles, tragedies, problems and other things we often relate as being the ause of depression....
there has in fact always been depression...
many societies did not allow men to admit to weakness of ay kind so they dealt with their depression in different ways to the manner we would now reommend...
women were in many societies permitted and even expected to be weak....
as a result depression is still often thought of as a personal weakness of the sufferer in some quarters of society today.
When you hear of illnesses such as depression, post traumatic stress disorder, and other such things being an epidemic of modern life it is beause the information is not not taking into acount the reality of the expertise of modern psychilogists and sociologists in being able study, define and research these conditions, nor is it taking into account the fact we have always had tragedies suh as death suicide war poverty asssaults rapes and other precursors to these conditions.

Some people speculate that depression is so prevalent due to stress caused by too many choices avaliable for people these days. I think its more of an epidemic than that people are more open to it - this type of environment breeds insecurities in people. Not only that, i also think that doctors are too quick to hand out antidepressants, then people get dependant on them, try to get off them then cant. Just some theorys...

Plato said that depression was caused by not living right. I think that's true. How many people really feel that their lives have meaning? Most of us are caught up in the ever-increasing consumerism that is pushed at us. Meaning in one's life does not consist of having more and more consumer goods. Relationships with other people are where we can find the most satisfaction but we are being pushed, more all the time, to be critical of our fellow humans, because that is what makes money for the people doing the pushing. The media sell a lot of newspapers by sensationalising peoples lives. If you are important enough they will try to destroy you. If we didn't feel less than worthy ourselves, we wouldn't be so easy to con!
It's only because we all feel somewhat inadequate that we turn and criticise others to make ourselves feel, however fleetingly, a little superior. (Though no-one admits that!)
You hear psychiatrists say that depression is anger turned inwards and it's easy to see how they might think that, because most of us have plenty to be angry about. However I prefer Plato's theory, it makes more sense to me.
It is an epidemic and I think it is time we thwarted the people who are happy to ruin our lives for the sake of their fat bank accounts, by refusing to buy their vile stories and character assassinations.
I am not an "important" person myself, thank goodness but I can clearly see what they are doing to the people who are!!

i be conscious of that a substantial ingredient of melancholy in uk is assumed to be led to by utilising the drug subculture. I undergo in strategies that 10 years in the past it replaced into predicted that 2 million human beings a weekend took Ecstasy, undergo in strategies that this would be a central authority estimate so in all probability does not come close to the genuine discern. Ecstasy releases greater advantageous serotonin into your strategies, making you all enjoyed up, improving your evening out, making the solid situations super. yet then contained in the week you get the come down. There are greater 20 - 30 year olds on anti depressants than ever earlier and an excellent sort of have faith its because of this. Its because you may no longer reflect that top on your everyday life. Plus, they do no longer unquestionably be conscious of what its doing to each ones brains, in comparison to velocity and LSD that have been examined on human beings back contained in the day. don't be conscious of what the different motives are, yet i be conscious of approximately this one because of the fact I had 2 years of counselling. drugs somewhat do f**ok you up.

Hunny, everything began with Power of The Mind. For those of you who have not heard of Napoleon Hill he was one of the early teachers of the power of the mind. The basic principle is that whatever your mind can imagine it can create. How does it do this? What your mind thinks, sees, believes, feels is all sent to your subconscious mind power. it's great partner. Your Subconscious then works with the universe and creates your reality based on the messages that began in your mind. But its not enough to simply imagine it and then hope it happens. That's not the way it works. If you can imagine it you can achieve it but you need to know how to use the power of your mind. Your mind can create wonderful things for you if you know how to use it and how to send the right messages to your subconscious. Most people don't know how to do this. Instead, you go through life never really using the power of your mind.
Did you know that doctors now firmly believe that 75% of all sickness and disease start in the mind? 75-Percent! That's a very large amount. That means that 75% of all the people who are sick today -- are only sick because they did not know how to use their mind. Doctors will even tell you that most sickness and disease are caused by stress. This is another event that starts in the mind. Scientists have long said that we only use 10% of our mind. 10-percent that's it. Think of going through life only spending 10-percent of your salary? Could you do it? No! Yet you go through life only using 10% of your mind. That 10-percent is creating 75% of all sickness because we don't even know how to use it properly. Now imagine if you just used 10% of our mind correctly? What would happen? What would happen if we learned to use 90% of our mind correctly? The results would be astounding! Your mind is an incredible power but no one ever taught you how to use this power. Throughout your entire life you've been taught how to do everything but no one ever taught you how to use your mind. Creating Power teaches you how to use your the power of your mind. I'm not saying that if you work with the Creating Power System you'll start using all of your mind correctly. But I do know that you'll begin using the power of your mind to its full potential and that is enough to create the change you want. Would you drive a car if you didn't know how to drive? No. You would have someone teach you. Why then would you try to use the power of your mind when you don't know how? Yet you do it everyday and you get the results that you don't want. If you want to change your life. If you want to use your mind correctly and utilize all its power then you need the Creating Power System. And it's completely Guaranteed!
I was with a severe depression for 10 years. 7 types of different anti-depression medication. No to mention Hospitalized many times for attempts of suicide.
Just remember one thing. Medication in today’s culture is set by people who want to sell them. " Is not like in old days " Dr's get a kick back from them, also medication can make you even more depress if you take to much or the wrong kind. It can affect you and many different ways.
New world epidemic? Can end.
Anyone can do it, because I did it. I am Free of Medication and worries.
Best.

Both. It is more prevalent AND it is now, fortunately, becoming less of a negative social stigma to be open about having a mental illness.
In economically developed nations, it is a trend to move from diseases like TB, malaria, rickets, scurvy, etc., to diseases of affluence like cancer, obesity, and mental illness.
