Quite frankly the reason this was done is a way of showing that God was a soverign God.

Most of the time when people were told to kill others, it was in Gods judgement of them. Such as when God had told Israel to attack other cities and kill it was of judgement upon that nation because of their sins, or them pushing Israel into sin.

However the fact is many people were stoned to death and etc. because of their sin and God was pushing judgement upon them. However we are very lucky now that we don't have to under go such judgement because Jesus Christ is now here and he offers a way where he took the beat we all deserve.

Good question Billy. By now I'm sure that you have learned that there are many different opinions about the Bible and its contents, and mine is just another voice in the midst of all that noise. However, I would like to say those scriptures you are reading are from The Old Testament, (you probably know that) and according to the Bible the earth is 6008 years old, (you probably know that) and Jesus came 2006 years ago, and God did not have any rules at the very beginning of the world, but there came a day when he realized the need for some rules, the Bible calls them covenants. So there have been 8 or 9 such covenants or agreements or sets of rules from the time the world began untill now. Now we cant understand everything that God has done because then why would we need God, right ? God is who he is, and we are who we are, and his ways are higher than our ways, and thank God for that. Anyway when Jesus came one of the many things he said or brought forth was to Break the Laws, meaning the Laws of God. It was time once again for a new covenant, this time a final covenant. There will be no more chances, agreements or covenants, Thats it !
So really I believe that God was showing us who he was by those stories, (I believe them to be real live stories or situations) because the Israleites had no chance without God in those situations, they would have been slaughtered, they were weak, dis-obedient and dis organized and God wanted to show them that all things were possible with God....like some of us today need God to be with us, because doesn't it feel like we are in a war sometimes, and thats just normal every day life and in some parts of the world there is actual wars going on,... and Jesus came for all man and It is still the same God as it was then and to be sure that God is with us we need to go through Jesus and you shall surely NOT die !

The creature can not ask the writer "why did You try this or that?" See Rom 9:20. He explains Himself particularly for sure in His word. the actual question is "why do human beings refuse Him who has so for sure confirmed His love and mercy for them?" the respond to the question is given in Romans financial disaster a million. nonetheless, you will repent, ask His forgiveness and be forgiven. you're actually not ignorant in any respect, or you will not be asking questions like this. you would be on the edge of a clean existence. you would be shocked. Many others have been. as an occasion, C. S. Lewis and Josh McDowell. To get on your unique question, the bibles i exploit do not use the term "fake idol", yet in basic terms "idol". The term idol represents a dozen or so Hebrew words (some regarding one yet another) and one Greek word eidolon. Technically, there's a distinction between the guy-made merchandise and the "god", regardless of if angel or demon. for sure, there's a connection interior the experience that the idol worshipper is associating the item with the "god". What God is telling us is this - "do not worship something different than Me." To worship some thing is to characteristic properly worth to it. The scriptures say that in the time of basic terms he's worth to be praised. I somewhat have got here across that that's actual. in case you examine the Scriptures to be sure what he's announcing, i've got faith you will additionally come across that he's actual and superb suited. The issues that the enemy makes use of to accuse Him are fake, and if we've faith him, then we are deceived. yet you're able to try this. Ask God this. while you're actual, demonstrate your self to me so i'm able to grasp the certainty. If he isn't actual, then no answer would be obtained. If he's actual, then that's on your pastime to get the certainty and not be deceived. that's as much as you. meanwhile, i will pray which you're making the superb suited determination. bear in mind, love is extra useful that the grave. If it weren't for love, i would not have spent the time sharing this with you as I don't have something to learn. yet once you do as I propose and you settle for Him, then i will have won a sister in eternity.

I dio believe that the ones being ordered to death werew not following Gods laws and were trying to corrupt the followetrs. This is the law handed down to the people that gives them an idea of how to live their lives and make it to the kingsom of heaven. I mean if God had not had that law in place how many people would have thought it okay whenever they wanted to.,an d for whatever reason to kill someone? Also what is the difference between God ordering criminals to death then and the authorities if this country being tried convicted and sentenced to death. For the wages of sin is death .

To understand the Old Testament, you must look at it through the eyes of the New Testament.

Look at it this way: Humanity is a body, made up of many parts. Just like our human body is made up of many parts...limbs, organs, cells, etc.

Humanity suffers from a disease. The disease is killing many parts of the body, but the body will not die entirely, for the cure is Christ. The disease causes many parts of us to destroy ourselves and each other, for many reasons.

Did God actually tell His chosen of the old testament to kill each other? Were they really hearing Him correctly? Were they hearing what they wanted to hear, or hearing Him the way they wanted to hear Him? When I read the prophets--Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc., God is distraught over His creatures, His chosen, for not heeding His Word.

You're right. God said to kill people who were detestable in His sight. In the old testament the punishment for doing many terrible things in the eyes of God was death. But, through Jesus, we can show mercy and forgiveness instead of harsh judgment. He said, "Let him without sin cast the first stone." Therefore, we don't need to cast the judgment of death anymore. We can exhibit God's love and mercy.

RB is correct. If the LORD told Moses, and David and all the others to kill, it was because HE deemed it necesary to rid the World of evil.

HE also tested them, to see if they would obey the commands too, and some of them failed. So, HE punished them.

Now, we are living under HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, whom died for our sins, and commanded us to love one another...

Wars are still going to be fought, and men/women will die, because thier leaders tell them to...(As the LORD instructs us to obey our Masters, we march off to war for them).

But, murder is a different thing. We do that on our own, and not under direct command.

I wish you well..

Jesse

because god was invented by man, and apparently the guy who told these people to kill wasn't doing a very good job. or, actually, come to think of it, whoever said "thou shalt not kill" did the lousy job, cause nobody listened.

Did He? Do you have any proof? Sacrifices were before the commandments. The crusades and the conquest of America weren't sponsored by God. They were sponsored and carried out by extremists...
