I think what is written in the bible is not to be taken literally. Speaking of the tongues has been interpreted to be some codswallop language a few feign to understand.
But, there is another way of looking at it. Speaking of the tongues can be described as a language that has no barrier, no border where people of the world can communicate, think about it. Doesn't that spell, the computer??

YES, I have been blessed to speak in tongues. It happens when you allow the Holy Spirit to talk through you. It is the most amazing feeling in the world - being closer to God then ever before. People in our church (Baptist) do it every Sunday and others have the gift to tell the others what the meaning is.
This is a way of praising God so that only God can hear and the evil spirits in the sky can not understand what is happening. It's a way of shutting out evil spirits in a conversation between man & God.

No. It is nonsense. People get carried away by emotion when they think that God is personally inside them. They do all sorts of strange things such as babbling, crying, dancing, fainting, screaming, jumping up and down, etc. It is all an emotional roller coaster and some do it to make themselves look holy. But people want to believe that God is with them so they let themselves get like that.
Some people are fascinated with this sort of thing, and the church will keep them coming back so they can keep getting more $$$.
Here is more information about this.

Speaking in tongues is one of the spiritual gifts listed in I Corinthians 12:10. More detail is given about it in chapter 14, specifically that it is better to prophesy than to speak in tongues because prophecy is for the whole church and tongues is just for the individual. It also states that if you speak in tongues, you should pray for the interpretation and that you should desire the gifts that edify the whole church.
Anyone who claims to believe the Bible should believe in the existence of tongues as a gift of the Holy Spirit. But, it is only one gift, not something that everyone should or does have.

Yes, read the last chapter of Mark. the Book of Acts. And the 12th, 13th and 14th chapters of 1 Corinthians. Speaking in tongues should be part of the normal christian life. It is not required to get into heaven and does not ever have to be spoken in public but it is an invaluable tool for prayer.

Dont believe the Hype! "tongues" in the bible is another word for Languages. When the Apostles or the character in the account of Nimrod spoke in tongues it means they spke in different languages. NOt a UNiversal Hly Heavenly Language! It was given from holy spirit to apostles in order for them to preach to the Gentiles people of different cultures and languages. They too could now be understood and preached to about the kingdom of God. Any one in church speakin nonsense and Jibberish should be ashamed of themselves!

Read Acts 2 and see what happened. People were told in their own language. Languages that the people telling did not know.
I have heard of cases where it has happened in the last century.

I guess that I "believe" in it because I've seen people doing it. I look at it with suspicion...much like I do "hand motions" whilst singing.
But...whatever...I don't see any harm in it...unless the praying person's hair bursts into flames.
