That is not simply answered. War is a horrible experience. It attacks you mentally, physically and spiritually and leaves you drained. There are things that can cause kind of a love hate relationship with it. Even though the events are negative one can experience an adrenaline rush that while not pleasant can be addicting. You see people at their best and their worst and you develop strong bonds of brotherhood with those you serve. While most who've been there will tell you there is no glory in war, that is mostly because one finds it difficult to place a positive label on something so devastating. The fact is there is. You witness actions of others that you will forever remember with great admiration. You find yourself doing things that squeezes every drop of courage you can muster and you are surprised at your own performance. So while you hate war for it's evil you are still drawn to it because of what you become. I think this is why many vets feel a sense of loss when the war is over and they come back home. They have such high expectations of home but find that when they return something is missing....the camaraderie, the positive virtues of warriors IE. honor and courage, the sense of purpose and of being part of something bigger than yourself,.....and the rush.

I will be leaving for Army basic soon, and I can say it is not for the reason of "I Love War", I also am not interested in the viewpoint of some that this is just something Bush is doing for oil. I see war as an evil thing and to quote a movie " War is a continuation of politics by other means". I think war is the last thing any of us EVER want, but unfortunately there are times when things cannot be settled diplomatically. If I am forced to be put in a combat situation then I will serve with honor, but it doesn't mean I look forward to it.

I have been to Iraq twice once in 03 at the begaining of the war and once in 05. To say a person loves war with all its attrocities would be the same as calling that person a terrorist. War is not pretty nor is it nice but it is something that is part of the world, those of us who have fought and still fight with some of the memories we have have not enjoyed any part of it. But if it fighting and killing or being bullied by another extrimist group i chose the lifestyle of fighting. I will not raise my kids to allow another person to hurt them without fighting back, if we dont fight then we will just be inviting others to come and slap us again. So its not a "love of war" but infact a necessity to defend loved ones that compels most of us. True though that some just joining believe they want to kill but when they get out its different. For anyone who thinks I'm wrong needs to let me know so I can punch them, then when they want to retaliate they should think about how they dont "love war" then maybe they will see my point, if not then I will hit them again and see how long they will tolerate this until they resort to violence. We fighting dont love war but we do love life and nobody can appreciate life more than the people who have to take it.

There might be some folks who join up because they want to kill bad guys. That doesn't usually last too long after the first time they actually have to do it. I don't know too many guys who were really psyched to be going back for a second, third, fourth, etc tour.

Personally? I'm good at this. Honestly, I think my whole life has been spent in preparation to lead men in combat. That doesn't mean I like the idea of combat. While I understand the tactical concept of combat, the philosophical underpinnings elude me. I'm in a state of constant amazement at the horrible things people dream up to do to each other and the screwed up reasons they invent. I don't understand how 90% of the things we fight over can be important enough to justify killing.

I'd rather be a cop or a fireman or anything where I can help people. It just turns out I have the ability, and therefore the responsibility (in my eyes), to lead people. In doing so, I'm helping my people by defending my country and making sure we bring as many guys home as possible, no matter what happens.

No, no soldier loves to have a war. As a soldier he feels that he should protect the country, if there are any disturbances. That's they will be trained to be patriotic.
I personally feel that if a soldier loves to have a war he should not be called a soldier. He should avoid by solving concluding the war in a peace process

That is like saying that a person becomes a surgeon because they like cutting people open, so it was that or being a criminal.

After I retired from the military, I worked in rescue and EMS for a long time and I HOPED that it would be a quiet night and that I didn't earn my pay, but was ready to do so if necessary.

So, no, soldiers do not love war, they want to be prepared in case the other guy does.

Any soldier who has fought a war hates it. The only soldiers who claim to love war are those who have never been in the front line

I think a lot of young men join up because it is a job which gives them direction and discipline and self esteem.
I am sure part of that person likes a certain amount of danger and excitement in their lives too.
I wouldnt say they love war, but maybe the excitement and uncertainty of it. Then they go to war and witness the reality.

I don't think anybody loves war.Right now there is an on going war against terrorists. It's a soldiers duty to kill and rid the world of terrorists. There are terrorists that live here among us.Police departments should have the right without question to shoot suspected terrorists on sight.
Those among us do not have the right to go to court. Some judge would just let them off on a technicality.
