Loyal and very smart . Just train them to be wussys , cuz if you train them to be gaurd dogs or some crap, they just turn lethal .

Dobermans can be easily described by the following words:
Energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient.

They are easy to teach and quick to learn. They are great with kids, but the kids need to be taught to respect their family member. Cats can be hit or miss, but you have a better chance of a Doberman peacefully co-existing with a cat if introduced as a puppy.

If you do not have time to properly train your Doberman you should consider a different breed as they require (no...demand) a lot from their owners in companionship.

I have had Dobes for 17 years.
They are not the best family dogs. And sometime not good with cats.
They are not really geared to take direction from a child and most will not do so willingly. They are bred to protect and they are a VERY dominant breed of dog.
They will test everyone in the house to find out where they lie in the pack order. And if they think the person is below them they will not obey that person at all and will dominate them.
They think on their own and can get into trouble. They need a very firm hand and consistant dispiline and TONS to training.
If you are not wiliing to spend time training and each member of the house will need to train with the dog I would recommend a different breed.
These are time consuming dogs and they need a lot of attention.
They are wonderful dogs and I can not imagine my life with out one but I have spent hundreds of hours in training with mine.

Yes, they're right. It depends how you raise them. Good dobes are very handsome and great protectors, i especially like the Lex Luthor line from Argentina. Here in the Philippines, we have some specimens from that line being showed. They are AWESOME!
I'm a large breed dog person myself -with Rottweilers, Belgian Malinois and Bullmastiff breeds at home with me. www.geocities.com/acmek9.
However, if you have kids and cats, and expect your dog to be a buddy to them, I would humbly but seriously suggest that you get yourself another breed that has a better reputation with regards aggression. (Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Saint Bernards, Beagles, for example are large or medium dogs more suitable for a family with kids).
Always remember that a well raised dobe is still an animal. They still have the potential to harm, not necessarily by actually biting your kid, but possibly by throwing his weight on your kid due to excitement or something, causing ur kid to fall or tumble. So always keep good attention whenever your kid and an animal are together. Sometimes the mishap may be caused by the kid - ex. pulling its ears sharply then causing the animal to bite.
Never leave them alone together, especially very young kids.

I would recommend a Rottweiler. They are the best tempered with both children and cats . But, like I have said a BAzillion times, ANY dog will become the type of dog that
YOU , Yourself are willing to work for. The end product will depend on the amount of effort that you put in to his upbringing.

I hope this helps you out.
Blessed Be~

i have heard that they are kinda mean if you dont train them right.
i dont know if a doberman will hurt a kid but they might, it possible. i think they would hurt your cats. if i were you i stick with the cats as pets. or even get a jack russel puppy make sure that it is a puppy or this might not work. get the puppy and the puppy will just grow to like the kids and cats. i have a jack russel and he is really sweet. i trained him to be like that.

Dobermans are very loyal and friendly towards their owners and other pets living with them. They will however eat anything that doesn't belong to you, especially visiting neighboring cats...

Well, I don`t have so great experiences with that type of dog.My ex-friend had a doberman and it bit her when she was a kid. They don`t see playing as we, people, see it.Because when dobermans are together, they like to bite each other. And so it did to me.They`re very nervous, but they accept your friends.I personally don´t like that type of dog.
