I don't think the desperate measures to attain it or kill each other for it is to do with the ordinary weed smoker, this is for the people who control the stuff, they're territorial, violent, money and power crazy.
Heroin, crack and drugs in this category, users will get desperate and break the law, but I've yet to hear of a pot smoker (only pot no other drug user) killing for a drag.

Making the drug punishments as severe as they are in Singapore and places like that would lower the crime rate by heaps... The sentences may be a bit harsh at times, but it certainly sends the point home and it would do a lot for making people think long and hard about getting into drugs in the first place.

It depends. Legalizing it should stop the money going to drug gangs. Obviously this would have an effect on crime rates. The fact that smoking it is no longer a crime will eliminate cannabis arrests and lower the crime rate artificially.
Some say cannabis is a gateway drug that leads many to harder drugs, so increased use is a problem. I disagree with this.

Legalizing weed would help to some degree. But only legalizing all drugs would have a substantial effect on lowering crime.
The war on drugs kills more people, costs more money and lands more citizens in jail than any other idea in history.
It's American, it's wrong and the logic behind it is borderline retarded.
Drug's do not cause crime, they follow it.
They are illegal, That makes a great black market for criminals to make money fast. Which gives more people a reason to become criminals.
Legalizing drugs to lower crime is pretty basic thing. look into the alcohol prohibition. Learning from that you will see that pro-prohibition is anti-American and pro-crime all in one.
Pro drug legalization is anti-crime and pro-freedom.
Which one sounds more American to you?

I'm not sure that would work here and it would be dangerous to legalize it and THEN it not work. The damage caused to a handful of society between being newly legalized and to the point of it no longer being NEWLY legalized and any good coming from it would be disastrous. Those few or many people to be "sacrificed" for the greater long-term good is just too much of a price to pay (politically, socially, economically, etc). How easy or difficult would it be to reverse once implemented if it didn't work? I believe there are too many people using marijuana now. How do you explain the increased cynicism of people claiming "there are just so many stupid people"?

Marijuana is a drug and that drug can not be legalized because the simple fact, that the drug contour has been developing new additives that Hook their users into buying more marijuana believing they have a good bud stick when actually they are too ignorant to know the difference. Marijuana sales have climbed to an all time high because of the ingredients other than THC. If you pull a young plant up and baste it with Meth, your gonna feed the users an addiction more powerful than Marijuana itself and this reason we can not legalize Marijuana.

Not really as the crime rate increases by a fraction on average generally year in year out as the population grows.
Legalising weed would help decrease the number of users being charged and sentenced which in effect will help assist to keep the numbers of people sent to prison down.

Once the weed can be taxed like alcohol, it may be legalized. but now it is the scapegoat for the blunders and errors in modern law enforcement.
All government agencies must have a whipping boy to blame their short comings on. formally it was the so called war on drugs. Now itis9/11, Islam and the arabs.
Brace yourself.
