the pain started 4-5 years ago, am 56 y.

Old blood is brown. This isn't a normal thing. Could be a sign of testicular cancer or possibly a prostate problem. Five years is kind of a long time to live with this problem without it getting worse if it was cancer - so hopefully it isn't as serious as that - but prostate cancer can still be an option.

GO TO THE DOCTOR you are having some bleeding in there and that is why it is brown in color.
