I searched for "ex battery hens + Surrey and you'll never believe it, there's a rescue place! So you could try them, and if they'll rehome to you, you might get them free.
Years ago you used to be able to get them from livestock markets for 10p each. I don't know of any in your area. Or you could try approaching smaller battery farms, bigger ones are likely to be too busy to supply you.

. . . have you tried the "Surrey Ex-Battery Hen Shop" though there's not much of a supply since they changed to re-chargeable batteries . . .

Most hens are killed once they can't produce eggs anymore in a battery environment.

My advice is to liberate some from the nearest battery hen production line to you.

Try asking your vet as they might know of someone. That's how I got mine & they're still going strong more than 2 years down the line & laying virtually every day. Good luck!

IT was on 'Jimmy's Farm' the other week - you could find out maybe from the BBC site about the programme.

Most hen-concentration camps (battery farms) will sell them for £1 or so. Thanks for rescuing them; within weeks they will be gorgeous again.
