The Mark of the Beast...actually 666 is not "the Devils" number it is the number of man.
An animal (a beast) can have no idea of God. Spiritual and moral values are of no meaning to it. The number six represents man without God. The number six six six means man man man, a system that is totally mancentred and mandominated. Everything is based on man's thoughts and plans and schemes. There is no room for God in it.
The number 666 is composed of three parts: ``six hundred,'' ``threescore (sixty),'' and ``six.'' In the Bible, the number ``six'' is man's number, as man was created on the sixth day. So 666 has a component of man in it. The three sixes in 666 represent three men, or the spirits of three persons.
The Bible associates the number 666 with only three men. It is not directly associated with any other object or concept in the Bible besides these men. We need to know who these men are, what they did, who they were related to, etc. in order to gain the wisdom spoken of by John the Revelator.

There is an antichrist coming and the number 6 is a symbolic representation of man. God is represented by 7, the number of perfection. 6 is something less.
The antichrist as it talks about will have the power to deceive many and lead them astray.
Another 666 is a flight that went from Montreal to Halifax. Not many took that flight, but I did.

According to anthropologist Phillips Stevens, Jr. at the University at Buffalo, the association of "666" with disasters, evil, doomsday scenarios, and the devil are based on a "widespread misinterpretation" of Revelation 13.
Professor Stevens said:
"Like most superstitions, the avoidance of the numbers 13 and 666 are examples of magical thinking. People everywhere believe that things associated with other things, through actual contact or just some similarity, have causal relationships—even over space and time. Things associated with good events or great people can bring good fortune; things associated with failure, disastrous events or evil people carry some of that negativity with them.
He suggests that the "number of the beast" in Revelation 13 does not refer to Satan, but to one of many beasts mentioned in that passage. He said:
" 'Revelation' is a complex and confusing book, and is rarely read closely by lay people. Biblical scholars have pointed out that there are several 'beasts' in Chapter 13 and elsewhere, and they all refer variously to Rome, Roman emperors and Roman cults of god- and emperor-worship....many of the strange elements in 'Revelation' signify events, people or institutions familiar to first-century Christians.
"The mark of the beast, 666, signifies those in thrall to the emperor and thus opposed to Christianity, and is most probably the numerical equivalent of the Hebrew letters for Nero."
Stevens notes that the First and Second Letters of John use the term "Antichrist" to denote lapsed Christians. Over subsequent centuries, the legend developed that the "end times" would be foreshadowed by the arrival of the Antichrist, an evil figure commissioned by Satan to prepare the world for his coming.
He continues:
"Many perceived enemies of Christianity have been labeled the Antichrist, and Nero was one of the first...[followed by] a long string of mostly historical figures—Saladin was on the list, as was Hitler and Saddam Hussein. The list varies according to who compiles it. Early Reformation-era Protestants had some popes on their list."
"So, although 'the beast' is not Satan, in Christian tradition 'the mark of the beast' was authorized by Satan. And so, like that other Christian superstition, Friday the 13th—from the Last Supper, where there were 13 people at the table, and the Crucifixion occurred the next day, a Friday—666 has become a strong taboo, avoided because of its negative association."

In the end times 666 is the mark of the beast ( or Satan ) and he will try to take control of the world and make people follow him to show God that he has more power than him. If you read Revelations it's all in there.

simply put,666 is the mark of the beast. in the book of revelation, the mark of the beast brings an era of turmoil for God's people. they will not be able to buy or sell anything unless they have the mark on their forhead or the back of the wrist. it also is the symbol for man. unfortunately, the antichrist will wage war on God's people and it will not be a pretty sight. manny will die, many more will suffer injury. those who go unharmed will be hiding better than the jews in world war two.

It is the Name Of The Beast! Satan!
May be there is something "lost in translation",
because it could also be GGG...
Best U read the Big Book, there is a line 13/18,
where the name of Satan appears when John
has his vision of Judgment Day or Dooms Day.

Depends on the context doesn't it?
Could be just a plain number although it is commonly recognized at the "Devils Number" or "Mark of the Beast"

It's the mark of the beast
7 in the bible symbolizes earthly completeness
therefore 6 represents falling short of that mark
but for the wild beast (earthly governments) 6 is repeatd 3 times for emphasis because they fall so short of being able to rule well
