The points of difference are so numberous that a listing and explanation of them would be too much for this forum. Presby. follows a systematic theology often refered to as "covenant theology". In a nutshell, it is the idea that the Old and New covenants are essentially the same and that for every point in the Old, there must be a corresponding point in the New.

In general, Baptists are dispensational theologists. In short, dispensational theology teaches that, although God does not change, the methods He uses to deal with man change from time to time. These time periods are called dispensations. They seperate the Old and New Covenants. In this system of theology, the covenants are not the same and there is no point for point correspondance.

I realize that this is a very poor explanation. But, as you might imagine, the outcomes of these two systems of theology are vastly different. Their understandings of salvation are so similar that, unless you dig into the many surrounding doctrines, you will see no difference. But, it is those surrounding doctrines that distinguish the two and there are many differences -- some in practice and some in theology.

For a detailed explanation of the differences, I would recommend the following book. There Really is a Difference! by Renald E. Showers, published by The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, Inc.
The purpose of this book is to compare Covenant and Dispensational theologies.

There are two major differences between the Presbyterians and the Baptists:

1) Presbyterians practice baptism of infants born to Christian parents, while Baptists practice baptism of adults (so-called 'believers' baptism' - the point being that it is a personal confession of faith), and

2) in the Presbyterian Church, governing authority is held by a group of elders (rather than by one pastor), while in the Baptist Church, the government is congregational, with the congregation as a whole holding the ultimate authority over church affairs.

Both of these churches believe that authority should be held by a group rather than by one person, and both believe that baptism with water does not save you in any way - it is a symbol, an act of obedience, and nothing more.

Assuming you mean Presbyterian and Baptist...
The original difference is in their roots. They both came about during the Protestant Reformation - when people started seeing the problems in the Catholic church and wanted to do something about it.
The Presbyterians were founded by John Calvin and were mostly in Scotland. The Anabaptists (now just the Baptists) have no one founder, and were mostly in Germany.

If you want to know more than that, do an internet search on the Protestant Reformation.
If you want to know more about current beliefs and practices, contact your local churches of either denomination.

The difference would be , where do they stand on eternal salvation and how do you find it. Scripturally it tells us that "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!" This is what a Christian/Baptist stands firm on. Presbyterians in days past had a similar understanding on the same scripture. Some of todays churches believe that if you are good enough and do all the right things, God will allow you in , but again the Bible tells us that , 'not by works of righttousness," that means we can't work for our salvation, but after we believe and receive the Lord Jesus into our life, then do we work for Him and make our lives the more fullfilling. God gives us the freedom to choose which path we want to take. Right or Wrong. When we ask the Lord Jesus to forgive us of our sins(anything we say think or do that displeases God, for He is a Holy God and can not look upon sin), when we do that then the Lord Jesus becomes ruler of our life. That means we allow him to have control in our decision making. Do we do what is right to please Him, or do we go "our own way " and ususally find ourselves wishing we would have done it the way God would have done it. Their are many religions that want to call themselves Christian, which means Christ like. We need to remember Christ NEVER SINNED! Are those religions standing for what Jesus stands for?

There are many different Baptist denominations ranging from conservative, fundamentalist ones to very liberal and social oriented ones. The same holds true of Presbyterian denominations, although I don't believe there are any Baptists who go as far as the ultra liberal PCUSA.

In terms of theology, I believe the primary distinctive has to do with the sacrament of Baptism, which Baptists hold to be a rite of passage to be performed at the choice of a believer. Presbyterians believe in infant baptism. Additionally, the two branches of protestantism differ in their governmental structures.

Hope this helps. God's peace and grace to you, friend.

Presbyterians and Baptists are both Christian religions. Christian is not a separate religion. There are many Christian religions...Catholic, Protestant, the ones you mentioned, and even Jehovah's Witnesses. They are not so different in their beliefs. The differences are in the structure of the churches and the rules they have.
