It means don't act hastily and jeopardize your soul.
Response:
I tried to respond to your email but it would not go through.
I am an atheist, I am not an anti-theist. I support everyone's right to freely practice & believe whatever they so choose, within the limitations of law & civilized behavior.
I was a practicing Christian for over 30 years and have read the bible more than once. I am qualified to answer bible related questions. And, attempt to do so to the best of my ability & understanding.
You are welcome and thank you for the kind words.

The word "patience" has changed meaning since the KJ Bible was translated 400 years ago. Then it mean to be "Steadfast" or "firm". Luke 21 at the point is listing the dangers that lie ahead for Christians. How they will be betrayed and hated. But, verse 18 says, not one hair on their head will perish. Then comes verse 19, which is translated in newer versions as "By standing firm, you will gain life." It is an exhortation to continue to hold on to your faith in God no matter how bad things get. He is will save you in the eand.

The New International Version (NIV) translation renders that verse as 'By standing firm, you will gain life.'
The context is the end times, and the 'life' referred to is eternal life - the one that you will receive if you stand in the Final Judgment instead of falling (also see Hebrews 10:19-39; Revelation 1:19-3:22)

my bible says 'by your patience possess your souls'. The passage before is warning us of the end times (verses 7-21) and my take on it is that we need to be patient for God's return and in so doing we keep (possess) our souls for God.

endure the ride to salvation, which is basically to persevere and not be tempted by sin and the easier way of backsliding into sins of pleasure, because the reward of this endurance is salvation. in otherwords, if you endure the means of salvation, your soul will be saved from eternal condemnation and your soul will rejoice in heaven with you FATHER( GOD )

In this scripture Jesus is explaining when the time of the end will be. to have patience at that time you will need it to be able to enter the kingdom.

"by patient endurance you shall keep your souls in harmony with God...."
My own take on this is: Be patient with myself, own, be in control of, that is self control and discipline. the world pressures me to go, go , go. But in order to maintain possession of my soul I move more slowly and patiently than the world around me.

In your times of waiting there is who you are.
Impatient people are not in one with the Lord.
God Bless You

I think it means, if you have faith, you are saved. You have to have patience to have faith, because God is not obvious in the ways he shows himself to us.
