I went to the doctor for chest pain and my mom ended up mentioning how another doctor said I had unexplained weight loss (ribs messed up, nothing to do with AIDS). I've got the weight loss, and the doctor is testing me for it to be on the safe side. I really don't have any of the other symptoms as far as I can tell. I mean, I've only had sex twice. One time was with a virgin. So, I, in all likelyhood have nothing to worry about. Nonetheless, I'm kinda sorda worried to death. Also, can normal blood tests pick this up? I've had several of those and nothing ever came up.

alot of things can cause rapid weight loss, one of them hiv, but this is the catch : a doctor starts to suspect hiv if a patient presents with a loss of 10% of his original body weight not identified to be cause by any other condition. The main thing u should know though is that there are other factors that the doctor has to look at before coming to that assumption, meaning he will have to look at other constitutional symtoms like persistent generalised lymphadenopathy( enlargement of the lymph nodes of the neck, armpits and groin), persistent fever or diarrhea and a lot of other things. The thing is that hiv hardly pops up in other tests until maybe in its terminal stage so the only way to know is to get screened for it. And for the record we've since patients who contracted hiv on their first sexual encounter. So go get screened, find out that u are negative and you will find out u will become more careful.

If you are Seriously that Worried go to a doctor and ask if he can do a Test to Determine whether you have anything, but be forewarned, the Test Results may Take a couple of months to come back positive or Negative

Sometimes it can take a while to show up in your blood, I believe it is up to six months after you have been exposed to HIV. However that is not the major issue. How old are you? You should be using protection. Maybe going through this will help you learn that it is very likely that you can contract HIV! It is more common than you think and a very real possiblilty.

Unexplained weight loss could easily be an HIV sympton or red flag for your DOC.
As for blood work....normal blood test do not test for HIV. But could have several markers that would lead doc. to investigate further, such as white blood cell count.
