Is it necessary to mistreat them just because of that. They still are humans beings; therefore, they still have rights. Just becasue we have a piece of paper that says we are American doesn't make us any better.
I will probably get many responses with "SEND THEM BACk" blah blah blah... but THEY are a major part of our economy. They give more than what they take. My parents are from Mexico (No I was NOT an ANCHOR BABY) THey did it the right way and have NEVER relied on the government. Mexicans are not free loaders. We are hard working people. Rarely do you see a Mexican on the streets asking for money. THey come here to work at JOBS that no one else was taking....the dirty jobs....
My point here is yeah, it's wrong to come here illegaly, but that is how this nation was formed. Secondly, just because they were not born here doesn't make it OK for ANYONE to mistreat them.
now bring on the hate mail :)

Also, about the whole terrorist issue... well, I believe we should be looking at our Northern border a little closer. You really think terrorists are going to come through Mexico when they can easily come through Canada. That border is a lot less patrolled... and I mean A LOT...Do you not recall the terrorists acts in Canada not too long ago.. but that's a different can of worms...

Yes, ONE billion is spent on them, but they put in at least 6 times as much into the economy.. let's see, if you do the math, we are the ones benefiting..
and must i emphasize "land of opportunity"
my preception is not clouded. I speak for anyone that doesn't have a voice. Yes I am Mexican-American, so I see it from BOTH sides... I'm not justifying an illegal act... but it's RACISM..

The post above me had it wrong. California will not spend only a billion dollars 'over the coming years' to give illegals health care. Los Angeles County alone spent a billion dollars to give services to illegals and California spent $10.5 billion, just last year.
They are too asking for money. Money from our education funds, money from our health care funds.
Everyone talks about the baby boomer retirement as a huge impending issue, which it is. However, the baby boomers were very productive in their working life and built up the funds for the social services. There should have been reserves. However, there aren't.
More the money comes out of the places that impact the residents of this country most. We are supposed to not only want to let illegal aliens have a 'better education' but want to give them discounted college when our own children aren't able to go to college due to the expense. At the same time, in areas where illegals concentrate the funding has gone so predominantly to ESL services, that our children are being poorly prepared for college or anything else.
Their better life is at our expense and our children are paying the biggest price. Why should thier children be more important to us than our own?
I agree no one should mistreat anyone, and I feel badly for the poor of other countries that have money to help their poor but don't do it. However, that doesn't make us responsible to take on that burden. We can't have both a welfare state and unlimited immigration. We need limited immigration to protect our schools and services we pay for for our own people.
Poor people may be wonderful people, and certainly we value our own on that point alone. However, they in no fashion 'put back more than they take' economically even if they pay all taxes. This is well known. That is why all developed countries in the world limit immigration of poor people, and some, like Mexico, ban it altogether unless you are the immediate family of a citizen. Also illegal immigrants are disproportionately criminal, statistically. They are also disproportionately gang material.
I think we need to stop the problem going forward and limit immigration. I think we need to actively deport all of the bad sort, all those convicted of crimes after serving their sentences, and all those in gangs, whether they can be proven to have committed a crime or not.
Then I would be ok with legalization (not citizenship) for screened illegals already here. However they would have to make a choice whether to go home to their family or leave absent family where they are the many years it may take to come legally under existing quotas. Letting those here bring family would quadrupal the already unacceptable numbers.

As far as Illegals giving more than they take let me just say that Illegals at the rate of 20 billion dollars a year are sending money to their true homes not spending it here in the US. Also they use the welfare system more than any other group of people. They use our roads that legals pay taxes on what do they pay? Nada. As far as no one else wanting these "dirty" jobs well who was doing them before they came? Answer legals. I think the company's who hire illegals should be fined heavily for every Illegal they employ. Make it hurt to hire an illegal then there want be illegals. If you want to work in America you must be a legal either with legal papers stating you have the right to work here or a citizen of the United States.

You don't see the problems that it creates. Jobs that should be done by Americans are taken over because the illegals can be paid less, without taxation. Health care costs rise because they haven't money to pay, but under the law the hospitals can't refuse. You would prefer that they do the scut work so you don't have to dirty your hands seems very racist to me. Look at the economic impact, the political impact, and associate the outsourcing, the corruption, lack of taxation, educational burdens, the language problem, and the other various problems...then think about them cleaning up their own country...getting corruption stopped, stopping illegal drugs, stop the bribery to the Border Patrol, FBI, Homeland Security (how else could 11 million enter?????)....dont be naive!

illegal is still illegal. Yes treat them with respect and how you would want to be treated. How about they pay their hospital bills in the southern states. Americans can and do those "dirty jobs". We do not have many illegals around where I live but more and more are moving in. Before all landscaping and construction were done by white Americans. Which makes up most of the population here. Now landscaping is done by non English speaking Hispanics. They are supervised by Americans. Who laugh at the point none of the workers under them are legals. How do I know. My roommate is a supervisor of them. I am not saying it is just Hispanics. But majority of them are.
My family waited their turn to get here. They payed the fines and dues. I know because I am a first generation American in my family.

You answered your own question. It is ILLEGAL for them tp be here without authorization. If deportation is treating them badly...so be it. Have you looked at the difficulty US citizens have traveling into Mexico? Have you looked at the way Mexico treats the people from other Central American countries along its southern borders? There is NO other country in the world that treats illegal immigrants as KINDLY as we do. Your Mexican heritage has probably clouded the perception of this issue. But, and you said it yourself, your parents did it the right way. The illegals pay no taxes and are sucking the system dry. California will spend over one BILLION dollars in the upcoming years just for illegals health care. Does that sound like unfair treatment? They come across our borders, get free medical care, free school for the children, pay nothing into the system, and then gripe when every business doesn't speak their language. Who is being fair here? And, the Mexican government is encouraging as many as possible to cross our....that means your.....border. They want the twenty BILLION in tax-free dollars that are sent back to Mexico every year.

Hey, will you point me to a law book in the 17 century for the Americas that says anything about illegal immigration. Oh, and if you are not a U.S. citizen you aren't protect under the U.S. constitution. I don't hate immigration, but I don't like the fact that they feel the need to come over here illegaly and then protest for more rights. If you want to do that then me and a bunch of my friends are going to mexico over the fence and protesting until I get the same rights as the mexican people...wait I'm not going to do that because I am in THEIR COUNTRY.

Unlike any country in the world, USA is a land of immigrants. So every human who comes here to work and do no harm should be embraced as it's been for 300 years. That's how everyone's ancestors got citizenship in the first place: right away!

All they have done is mistreat the United States of America, as well as insulting the heck out of us. They have absolutely no respect for this country and it definitely showed during their protests. The American people have had enough.
You say they aren't freeloaders. Not true. They get better treatment in this country than I do and I'm a legal citizen! There are a lot of Americans taking exception to their freeloading. Instead of saying 'thank you' they just spit in our faces. They're extremely disrespectful of the United States.
Here...check this out...

If the Mexicans want to come to this country for a better life, I have no problem with that. The problem I have is that I have to pay for them. They work hard, make money but still their healthcare is for free...their housing costs them nothing..they send their children to school and they pay no school tax...who do you think pays for this? Let them enter legally and put back into the system like most of us HAVE to do. And, it's NOT ALL "dirty jobs" as you said and NOT just jobs no one else will take.. I have seen them firsthand doing construction work...roofing..concrete work...driveway paving, painting houses etc. Those are not dirty jobs...they are hard but decent jobs because my husband happens to be in construction and sees it all the time.infact he has seen a huge increase ...Want to come to this country for a better life...fine..we all want better lives but that does not automatically intitle you to a free ride.. So, do it legally so I do not have to continue to pay for you. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that request and that is what I think bothers most people. People have to stop waving the racist card around about this too...it's just common sense..we cannot continue to pay for them.

Selling drugs is illegal...but...?
No compromise for those who break the law for wathever reasons.
NO BARGAINING
What about those and their family who choose to apply legally. While you are reading this, there thousands of people waiting (in line) for an immigrating visa overseas. You should include these people in your discussion. if you were in line in a bank and some people choose to make a shortcut to get ahead of you, how would you feel? Good manners must come first.
who should have the right of way, the illegal or the legal ?
What would you choose, reason or emotion?
The legal applicants have supreme rights to get here first because they have endurered pain and they deserve to be rewarded first. It takes averagely from eight to ten years to get here, legally. In contrast, it takes five to ten minutes to cross the border. Is it fair to those who already here legally ? and what about those waiting, overseas?
No one ever say a word on their behalf.
anybody knows about visa quota for legal applicants?
