I was born and raised here and even though I live in NYC and have seen my share of tragedys, rarely do I see racism occur here. Until recently, I thought the fear of whites becoming the minority was just one big lie. But I guess even in a big city, you can be living in a bubble. So my question I guess is why do Americans think so highly of themselves? With all the problems we face, do you really think we are a superior nation? After I am done with college, I'm out of here, doesn't anyone ever think of just leaving and starting new in a place that isnt so insanely conteriversial and racist? I know many immigrants (from all over the world) come to America because of the great things they hear about it, but i'm sure there are many Americans who question it and feel the same way

Yes you are right. France? No freedom at all. Spain? nope, none there. The rest of the world is in turmoil because they are not Americans and have no freedom or rights.

rugged or whatever your name is.
1."Our economy is the best in the world. Our people are the most generous in the world. Ours is the best form of government in the world. The biggest problem we face is how to spend our money." You totally contradicted yourself there and I have been to Europe, South America and yes AFRICA and our people definitley suck compared to our fellow human beings. And the form of government...questionable.
2. Like I just said, I have been to many places before. I go to France every summer and live there. I've been to Zimbabwe. I've been to Argentina. I've been to many countries in Europe. I've been to Puerto Rico. I see how they live and yes I do think that for all the talk Americans do, they can do a lot better compared.

DAR.. I go to private school because the public schools in NYC are not good. They are too crowded and not given the money they need. Also many of the private schools in the city have a name and reputation to them and that name opens up the door for many other places for me.

The answer to your basic question ("So my question I guess is why do Americans think so highly of themselves?") is, in a word, arrogance. It's inevitable that the citizens of a prosperous superpower would have this attitude. I live in New York City as well, and New Yorkers have the same attitude. Yet, America is plagued by an increasingly apathetic, complacent, uneducated, and ignorant populace. For example, only 50% of REGISTERED voters vote, and a significant number of Americans believe that Iraq was responsible for 9/11. To make matters worse, we have reckless, inept leaders who are not being held accountable by the opposition party, the media, or the populace. I don't blame you for leaving. I wish I could; but family commitments prevent this. By the way, as America declines, there will be other countries advancing to superpower status, such as India and China, and perhaps Japan.

You are still young and have a long time to live so why not get out and see other lands. For some it works and they stay away. Most find that the opportunities are near home and not in other lands. Discrimination and racial discrimination is alive and doing very well in all other lands as well. You just do not hear about it where you are. I have not been in the USA for 13 years and have seen many lands and been with many different people. As a white face in many places I am reminded every day that I am the foreigner here and most places I go. Yes I am in Asia and have been for a long time. Opportunity for a white face is very limited and most of the time not fruitful. Being sent to another nation by an employer is much better in many ways. It would be better for a young person to learn other languages and seek employment in companies that need people in other lands. Mandarin is very much needed by foreigners going to china to work. If you want to leave the USA then prepare yourself to be able to make the most of where you want to go. Freedom is mostly what you make of it. The other issue of white people becoming minority is a real possibility and not long in the future. That will cause a huge problem for all in the States. Islam is one belief if allowed to get a hold on the nation will totally ruin all that the people have worked to achieve for so ling.

Every country got problems. But we are living in a country that we are WAY TOO BETTER OFF than many other countries. Where in the world do you find all cultures, races, religions, languages, nationalities all came in one place and ALL pursue the same careers, goals and living well. And racism is very rare here when we have all these diverse society. In other places, you MUST be part of the dominant race, religion to get anything in your way, even elected in office. Here in America, a homeless turns in to a successful millionairee if he/she works hard for it, and the millionair can become a homeless in a heart bit, only in America. We don't face here rebellions, starvation, droughts, I think you SHOULD start to travel and see how the world is. I have been to at least 15 countries, and THERE IS NO PLACE like the U.S.A.

I object to your first question. It is a leading question and shows prejudice. You assume Americans think highly of themselves. A fact not necessarily in evidence. The phraseology is a negative. I think a more accurate way to put it is: "Many Americans are proud to be Americans."
Superior Nation can mean different things to different people. Our military is the best in the world. Our economy is the best in the world. Our people are the most generous in the world. Ours is the best form of government in the world. The biggest problem we face is how to spend our money. Anything you might conceive of as a problem can be resolved if most people agree it is a problem.
Have you ever lived in any other country? Have you ever visited any other country? Utopia does not exist. Your idea of what is right or fair is only in your own mind.
Before you abandon the best place to live in this world, shop around. If you can afford it, live in any country in Africa for a month.

A lot (not ALL ok) but the big majority I find of Americans don't see past their own country. I see this online all the time (and have been online for 16 years). I'm in Canada and it still amazes me how many know so little since we are neighbours. Even your government officials have been caught on tape not knowing simple questions about Canada that 3rd graders should know and those officials have been the foreign ministers to our country. Up and coming Presidents in primary races were asked questions about Canada (from Canadian news people) and they were like deer caught in headlights - they didn't even know who our Prime Minister was. So I agree with you - I think many do live in a bubble, learn what they do from what is being fed them. When I asked friends of mine in the US about learning about Canada - they just simply said - we were never taught stuff like that.
All countries have problems and the US has theirs too - guess that is why the UN does NOT rate it the best country to live (don't worry Canada isn't either).

You are right, but a better solution is to educate the masses... Most Americans will be surprised, or deny, how stupid they really are and brainwashed as well!!
Leaving is not the real solution, every place in the world has its own problems.. the difference between US and the rest of the world is that US is not solving its problem yet causing problems to other nations.... it's insane.

Uhh.. why that guy here is pasting a poem?? lol

I left a couple of decades ago to live in Europe, first Germany then England. Why do so many Americans believe that the USA is the only free country in the world? Where is all this misinformation coming from?

My suggestion is to leave the States for a year....go to other countries and then look back at the US and your eyes will suddenly clear. You see the US as being heavy-handed in foreign affairs, aggressive, supporting corrupt dictators (like Saddam), the control of the government by big business, the inequality of employment, the inefficiency of federal agencies (i.e. the FBI, Homeland Security, Border Patrol for the influx of so many illegals...if Mexicans can walk across the border...why not terrorists and if drugs flow...why not bombs????). Other nations see America as being pompous, inefficient, aggressive, racist, and as a failing economy as Japan slowly buys control of many corporations in the US....Are we doing so well?

I have also been to Europe, Turkey, Russia and Africa, as well as the North American countries. If you would rather live in one of those places and have the qualifications to meet their immigration standards, by all means, go for it.

Each to their own.

But you might ask your parents why you are in private school. What is wrong with the public schools?

The rest of us don't want our public schools to go the way of NY. Although, unfortunately some of them need remedial help at this time, like LAUSD.

What is your opinion on the extermination of whites in zimbabwe?

I would never leave my country.

Why do you not ***** about the Frenchman a couple days ago saying the only the French can claim superiority.

For someone that travels everywhere you sure are short sighted.
