The symptoms of a heart attack include shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, substernal chest pain possibly radiating to the left arm or jaw, feeling of pressure in the chest, and sweating. Women and diabetics can have much more subtler symptoms, and may not even have pain.
It's rare but not unheard of for a 24 year old to have a heart attack, especially if there is a history of drug use. The fact that it's only when you inhale or exhale tends to point to something non-cardiac in nature. However, it would be a very, very good idea to get checked out by your doctor. You don't want to mess around with your heart. You also might have a severe muscle pull or a respiratory problem that needs medical attention.
Hope this helps!

Pain in the heart area, shortness of breath... go to the doctor. You can be having lung problems, from what you say. SO GO TO THE DOCTOR.

I had a friend who died at 23 from a heart attack. Go to the american heart association's website and checkout all of the symptoms - it sounds like it may be more of a lung issue - but please, go to the doctor and get checked. It's nothing to fool around with.

I have had that before, it usually goes away. I had Pluresey (sp?) before and it hurt my chest when I breathed in and out. Actually it was very painful. It is a infection in the plural lineing of your lungs. It could be that. I would go to the dr. if I was you.

rarely do 24 year olds have heart problems unless they use drugs,it sounds to me that it may be in your lungs not your heart,if you lift heavy objects it could cause the pain and running, could be an air pocket in your lung
