We have a fairly new kitten (got him @ 7 weeks...he's now gonna be 15 weeks).
He had some problems w/ grooming at first; but I tried to simulate "mom"----used a wet paper towel to clean his little face, etc.
Well, now he's been here awhile. I've seen him grooming/washing/etc.Seems to do a good job. But he still has this icky-looking right eye.
There are no signs that he has any infection in there...but that eye keeps draining , & staining his precious little face!
Any thoughts??!!

We have a vet appointment for him. :-) Thanks for all the great answers.
I used fresh parsley from my garden & made that tea...it seems to be helping with removing the stains from the drainage.
He's quite happily wreaking all kinds of havoc at the moment LOL!!...pestering the other members of our "herd".
(If you want to see pics of this cutie, check out my 360 page...the blog dated June 25th is when we first got him.)
He's added so much fun & laughter to our home; we'll definitely get him all fixed up! :-)
Thanks again!
Peace

First see a vet. But, you can make a tea from organic parsley. Wash and chop the parsley fine and put in a tea ball and steep liek a cup of tea. Let cool then you can wash the cat's eyes with a clean cotton cloth. It is also good for humans too.

First take him to a vet to rule out conjunctivitis and also herpes, chlamydia etc. Even when they are vaccinated, they can still get those diseases. The vaccinations work thus, the cat is vaccinated, they come into contact with the virus, some of their immunity to it is worn off, this keeps happening until they've used up the protection of the vaccine. He may have some kind of allergy in the beginning stages, best to exclude those first.
If that all checks out, then you can start wiping the eye with a makeup remover pad with warm water on a regular basis. You can buy lotion at the petstore to remove the tear stains.

TAKE IT TO THE VET!! My kittens had this, and we used a wet rag and some meds from the vet and all but one eye got cleaned up, the one that never cleaned up, ended up having the eye removed, and still is a great, happy, fun kitten. But get it taken care of ASAP!! HTH

I foster kittens and one of our kittens came down with a very bad and noticable infection a few weeks ago, we took to the vet the next day. She said almost all kittens get upper respitory infections and they put her on antibiotics. it went away in about a week but came back today. we started her again on the meds they gave us using the same dosage and it seems to work.
I think there are these tablets (lysin or something????) that get rid of cold sores for humans and help cats with they're upper respitory. You can keep them on it they're whole life.
DEFINITLY TAKE IT TO THE VET. OUR CAT WAS ON TWO MEDICATIONS TWO TIMES A DAY FOR A WEEK, AND FOUGHT US TO TAKE THEM. CATCH IT BEFORE IT BECOMES ANY WORSE.
hope it was useful info.

Well with some cats that's normal, especially with Persians, Siamese, and Himalayans.
I had a blue Persian/Himalayan that had the same problem all his life. I used warm, damp tea bags to clean his eyes and that reduced the "eye-snot" and removed the stains.

i have spent the last month bottle raiseing a kitten !
i took her to the vet shortly after i found her with puss filled eyes .
the vet gave her Clavamox (antibiotic) and told me that she had a case of upper respertory and almost all kittens will get this when hey are young .
you need to get your new kitty to the vet asap ! without antibiotics he will only get sicker , he can develope sores in his eyes , mouth and little nose from this , and in worst case DIE !
i strongly suggest taking him to the vet , my kitty is well with the brightest little eyes youve ever seen now .
the meds are not very exspensive , they souldnt run you more han 25.00 , a small price to pay if you think about how misriable you kitty is now .
i hope you all figure out whats wrong it may not be upper respertory , but iether way , you kitty needs to see the vet !

This is a sign of infection. I have seen this with my cats too. Take him to the vet and they will give you a cream to place in his eyes. Not fun to apply but effective.

He could have an infection in that eye and your just don't know it. Take him to the vet. I see this all the time. It just might not be really bad yet, the infection.

There could be a serious problem there, you need to let a vet take a look, before it gets any worse!
