I was wondering if it is possible to maintain a vegetarian diet while being in the US Air Force. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. The MRE's (Meals Ready To Eat) come in Vegatarian.

The MRE's come in a case with assorted varieties and there's only around 12 in each case that are vegetarian, or so I'm told. Basic training has vegetarian food, but its hard if you're vegan. The best thing to do if you go TDY is to mail food ahead of time. I bring powdered soy that mixes with water to make tasty soymilk. They really don't cater to special diets. Either they have something or they don't and you pretty much have to deal with it. Good Luck!

Why not? The military provides a variety of foods to meet all lifestyles. They won't cater to you but they do offer all kinds of foods. They don't FORCE you to eat meat.

You'll have access to grocery stores like anyone else once you're through basic training and tech school. So, you can buy your own groceries.

Yes, you can get vegetarian meals at the DFAC(mess hall) and MRE's also are available. They have to serve foods that are appropriate for different lifestyles and religions. The military is very diverse and the government recognizes and provides for that.

It is possible. But you don't get to choose what they serve, you may miss a meal or two if you have to use a mess hall. Later in your military career, you may get paid in-lieu of mess hall passes.
