When my cholesterol levels started going up, the doctor recommended taking Simvastatin. I started having nightmares about losing my memory that when I forget things I can't help but blame those statin drugs.

Yes, it's a rare complication but does happen. People have had minor memory losses and there have been reports of people having total amnesia--forgetting their names, homes, kids, etc--that improve when the drug is stopped. Talk to your doctor; maybe you can change to a different type of drug (a bile acid sequestrant.)

Been taking it (10 mg) for several years. No side effects so far.
