Mole is a mexican sauce. It is often made with unsweetened chocolate (which is bitter and doesn't taste much like the chocolate you find in a candy bar) and is also often served with chicken. For more details, please read this article below:
Mole (IPA: /ˈmo.le/) is the generic name for several sauces used in Mexican cuisine, as well as for dishes based on these sauces. In English, it often refers to a specific sauce which is known in Spanish by the more specific name mole poblano. It is also widely known in the combined form guacamole (avocado mole).
In contemporary Mexico, the term is used for a number of sauces, some quite dissimilar to each other. The most popular kinds come from the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca, and there is an annual national mole fair in the town of San Pedro Atocpan in the Milpa Alta borough of Mexico's Federal District, on the southern outskirts of Mexico City.
Mole poblano, whose name comes from the Mexican state of Puebla, is a popular sauce in Mexican cuisine. Mole poblano is prepared with chile peppers, spices, unsweetened chocolate, and a variety of other ingredients. Various stories exist about its invention, but none is generally accepted.
Enchiladas with mole sauce in Old Town San DiegoOne of the more popular servings is mole poblano de guajolote, or turkey prepared with mole poblano. Mole is often used to prepare chicken or cheese-filled enchiladas; it is also frequently ladled over chicken, rice, or chipped potatoes.
The recipe was refined by the nuns of the Order of Santa Rosa to impress visiting political and church officials in Mexico in the 17th century.
Mole can be bought ready-made from local markets or supermarkets. It comes as a kind of paste or powder that can vary in colour from deep black to green or even yellow depending on the ingredients used. In modern supermarkets and corner-shops mass-produced mole is sold—either canned, in glass jars, or in cubes that can be dissolved in water or, more appropriately, broth.
The word mole comes from the Nahuatl word mulli, which means "sauce", "mixture", "concoction," or "stew". The accented form molé, occasionally seen in English, is an error of hypercorrection, as the accent in mole is on the 'o', and no accent mark is needed in Spanish. This is probably done to emphasise the fact that the final 'e' is pronounced and to differentiate the sauce from the well-known burrowing mammal, the mole.

It doesn't sound stupid at all. You have nothing to worry about. Mole is sauce derived from chiles. There is a version of mole that uses cacao beans so you're right in saying that there's a form of chocolate in mole, except there's no sugar. It's just the bean itself that's in the mole. I've also seen a mole with peanut butter as the base. So there are many ways to make mole. The base is with chiles, I believe. Then you can add whatever ingredients to it that you want to make it your own. I hope this helped you out.

Doesn't sound stupid, don't worry.
Here's a recipe. I've never tried it, but I think I'm going to. Looks delicious!,
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1 dried New Mexico chile or california dried chili
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1/3 cup raisins
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon anise seeds, crushed
1 cinnamon stick
4 lbs chicken thighs
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes (unflavored!)
2 cups water
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup tequila
1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, chopped up
1. Toast the sesame seeds in a small, hot frying pan until golden brown, watch them closely.
2. Remove from pan.
3. Put almonds in pan and toast them to a golden brown.
4. Don't cheat on these steps, the golden brown color imparts a lot of flavor.
5. Remove from pan.
6. Put the chili in the pan and heat until it is softened well.
7. Remove from pan.
8. In a six quart oven proof pot, with lid, combine onion, garlic, raisins, chile powder, coriander, cloves, anise seeds, cinnamon, chile, almonds and sesame seeds.
9. Rinse the chicken, pat dry, and place on top of the mix.
10. Pour in tomatoes.
11. Pour in 2 cups water.
12. Mix tomato paste and tequila, pour over the chicken.
13. Cover and cook at 325 for 2 hours.
14. Check every 20 minutes to make sure there is still liquid in the pot.
15. When chicken is tender, remove it to a plate.
16. Remove cinnamon stick and the stem of the chile.
17. Put the rest of the mix in a food processor and chop it up until it is smooth.
18. Add the chocolate and pulse it twice.
19. Wait a few minutes for the chocolate to melt from the heat of the mix.
20. Then whirl the mixture a few more times until well blended.
21. Remove the skin and shred the chicken into a large serving dish.
22. Pour the mole sauce over it.
23. Prepare to enter heaven.
24. Serve with corn tortillas and more tequila.
25. Cooked chayote squash makes a nice accompaniment.

No, It's a thick not spicy sauce that is made from a dried assortment of chili's that have been softened in boiling water. To which flour, broth, chocolate, ground pumpkin seeds, salt, pepper and the seasonings you like. If you don't want to make it yourself it comes in a jar shaped like a glass, all you need to add to it is the broth and the meat.

I'm pretty sure I'll go with the first answer. I believe that mole is a chocolate cinnamon drink similiar to hot coco -- but it's made with a type of corn -- so it's thicker.
