it could be an std but the limited info that you give makes it hard to diagnose, just a sore throat and a red bump arent enough to make the leap to std a likelihood

Hello:
This is in response to your question about oral std's. The answer is yes you can get a sexually transmitted disease in your oral cavity and throat. If have been engaging in oral sex without a condom, you can easiily transmit gonorrhea, although, along with a sore throat, gonorrhea usually has a lot of pus and yellow material in the throat, but nothing is 100% in medicine, there are a few cases of positive gonorrhea cultures of the throat where there were no exudates or pus type material. Also, this red bump in the back of your throat, could possible be caused by one of the herpes viruses. If it is herpes, your throat would be excruciating sore, even swallowing liquids would hurt. The best thing you can do to be sure is go to your physician with this information and ask about getting a throat culture for gonorrhea and possibly a blood test for HSV I and II Igm and IgG antibodies. The IgM antibody will tell if you were just recently infected with herpes and the IgG will tell if you have had the virus for a long time and just never had an outbreak of a sore. Another possibility although rare if you are not suffering fatigue, malaise and a general "blah" feeling is mononucleosis ("mono", or "kissing disease" as it used to be called. I know you must be really scared right now, but the quicker you see your doctor the faster they can diagnose you and alleviate your concerns and fears.
I hope this helped answer your question
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

Ok im assuming you are sexually active if you are worried it could be an STD!
1) Dont panic - It could be anything - an ulcer, tonsillitis, a sore bit where food has caught it. Most sore throats occur as the result of a bacterial infection as the throat is the main entrance ito your body
2)If it is an STD then chances are it can be easily cured :) this is usually done with a course of antibiotics.
Gonorrhea is an easily contracted STD that is passed from person to person through sexual contact (Vaginal, Anal and Oral). Like i said it is easily treated, but follow the link below for more details on symptoms and treatment and stuff.
If you are worried it is an STD then go and see a GP, Doctor, or go to a sexual health clinic - they will make sure you get the right treatment, and will give you advice on safer sex for the future...

Hate to break it to you but it sure could be an STD, or it could be mono, or something else.
Either way, the docs are used to seeing this and are very discreet. No big deal.
You could try a warm saltwater gargle for a couple days and see if it clears up.
I recommend you get to the health dept and get it looked at.

Hello,
It could be stress-related. stress does alot of things which can include having symptoms for diseases we do not have.
If you are worried about STD's try checking it with a doctor.
Thank you
