Yep, you're on the right track.

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish or poultry. They are typically divided into different groups:
- A vegan doesn't eat any animal products (eggs, cheese, etc.). Vegans won't buy or wear animal products (leather, silk, wool).
- Ovo-lacto vegetarian will eat dairy and eggs, but no meat
- Lacto vegetarians will eat dairy, but no eggs or meat.

Yes you are correct. Vegan don't eat any animal products because of the way that the animals suffer. Cow are bred so that their udders are so huge they drag on the ground. They produce several times more milk than they normally would. Their legs become so weak they can barely stand or walk. They are forced to get pregnant, then their babies are ripped from them within 24 hours so we can take their milk. The male babies are put into veal crates and shipped to slaughter.

Chickens also suffer terribly, including having their beaks cut off without any anesthesia.

Vegans oppose this treatment of animals. For more information, there are a lot of good websites out there.
The books The Food Revolution by John Robbins and The Vegan Sourcebook by Joanne Stepaniak are also very good.

Of course there's a difference between vegetarian and vegan. Vegetarians, depending on what kind they are, don't eat meat but eat eggs and dairy products. Vegans don't eat anything from animals, including dairy products, eggs, and honey.

there are different types of vegetarians. some just avoid meat. some will eat dairy but will not eat eggs or egg products. vegans are by far the strictest of all vegetarians. vegans do not consume any animal products whatsoever. vegans also choose not to wear clothing or shoes made from animal products, such as leather or fur. they are also cautious about hygiene products as some contain animal products.

You are right. I have a friend who is a vegitarian and if it wheren't for ice cream, cheese and sour cream she would be a vegan. She won't buy anything that has animal bi-products, she checks everything right down to the soles of the shoes she is buying and of course nothing can be animal tested.

That sounds about right. There's all different levels of vegetarian. Some eat chicken and sea food but stay away from red meat. I've been a vegetarian for 6 years. I don't eat any meat at all, but sometimes I eat eggs. I do try not to buy any clothes made of leather, and I don't wear fur.
