Somewhere along the line some of the sites that were offering good "one way" deals have disappeared. London was always a hub that I could get a quick and cheap flight, suddenly no more "one way" deals. What gives ? Need flights to Spain, Singapore, South India, Toronto, Mexico City. He-l-l-l-p !

I fly overseas around 20-30 times a year and book all of the flights myself. I've found the best way to get a good price is to go to www.expedia.co.uk and put in your flight details. When the results are returned, go to the website of the cheapest airline listed and tweak the settings to try and bring the price down further.
It can be time consuming, but I save a fortune doing it this way! Also, don't forget to join up with a frequent flyer program with the airline you choose (or one of it's partners). If you are a member, they tend to be more easy going with excess baggage charges, so if you have a lot of luggage, you could save extra money there too.

Good luck!

I do a fair bit of travelling and the sites I tend to use are Lastminute.com, Expedia, Ebookers and of course the low cost carriers own site.

Latley though, if there is somewhere that I particularly want to go and the flight is too expensive to book with my credit/debit card I go to my local travel agent. They will normally be able to book the flight and I only need to pay a deposit! I can then pay the rest up at my convenience over a period of time, but still get the benefit of the lower air fare by being able to book in advance.

Also, it can sometimes be borth checking the availability with some of the charter airlines - Thomson, Thomascook, MyTravel and Firstchoice - if they have space on the planes you can sometimes pick up a bargain!!

This may surprise you . Usually places like ebookers are good but recently if you want a more complicated ticket like one year open etc then STA travel is ahead of the rest. I too was surprised as I normally do like you try the cheap less known agencies. I used the southampton branch to China and Sri Lanka and the price every time was cheaper and better than about ten other places I tried.

Wait a few days and travel to/from London is going to drop off so dramatically you'll be able to steal tickets!
