I have a hard time getting any sleep because of my coughing which has not been remedied by the cough syrup I have been taking for more than 2 days now. I have developed a sore throat due to my persistent coughing that is caused by an irritating "something" in my throat.

Allergies can cause a tickling feeling in your throat, take benadryl it works great and will help you sleep.I am just getting over whooping cough, and it starts with a fever and a tickling feeling in your throat that causes you to cough and progressively gets worse until you cough so hard your face turns red & purpple, and you cough so hard you vomit and or faint!!!! Whooping cough lasts for 2 months!! Go see a doctor if this cough you have can't be controlled by cough syrup or over the counter medications, whooping cough is making a comeback especially in people older than 20 and younger than 1 !!!

Most likely the tickling is due to sinus drainage. Here is a suggestion if the cough suryp isn't working. Try some honey and Jack Daniels. Don't drink too much or you might have a hang over in the morning. The honey will help to coat the throat while the whiskey fumes help to open up the passages that are in your throat.

If your only symptoms are tickling in throat and cough only when lying down, and ROBITUSSIN doesn't work(that's the best), you may just have acid reflux, try taking zantac or priolsec OTC. You may even want to raise the head of your bed, or at least sleep on pillows (enough to get your head over your heart). This is how mine started (it didn't feel like heart burn).

You need to see a doc to find out what's causing the upper respiratory problem. I've used Vick's Nyquil Cough brand when I have this problem but you still need to see the doc.

I've always gargled with warm salt water ( not as tasty as cherry flavored coffee medicine-granted..) when I suffered from your symptoms.

As others have suggested, honey, used in conjuncture with a green tea, or maybe chamomile...would help as well.

Here's a few more ideas:

Hope these are useful, feel better.

I know this may sound funny but I was told that if put some Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of your feet right before you go to sleep, you will sleep well with little to no cough...

Do you have allergies?

Are you asthmatic?

Sometimes asthma will cause a scratchy tickly in the throat.

So contact your doctor.
