basil, black pepper, garlic salt, and garlic (even though garlic's not an herb, it works in the same way). these are especially useful in alfredo sauces and italian foods like that. the general salt and black pepper are great for most foods, and lemon pepper is good on steak and pork. cilantro's great on mexican food (especially in salsa, you can make your own or add extra cilantro to some you bought). those are the spices i use most, they're awesome. dry herbs have more central flavor, in that it's concentrated. fresh herbs, if they have a wetness to them (or juice, like garlic and ginger--which, like i said, are used in the same way as herbs) are very strong, too, and should be used after being cooked down or lightly cooked in a bit of oil (like olive oil, for garlic). hope i helped! ;)

Basil and oregano are good herbs to use. Be careful with oregano though. A little goes a long way. And they can be used in anything from meat to salad dressings. Use less if you use dry herbs though because it's a more condensed flavor

My favourite is Rosemary, so many uses from Cheese on Toast to Roast Lamb. All herbs are beneficial and they say that Parsley is good for blood levels and the heart. Oregano is a good all round herb for flavouring dishes like pasta, pizza, casseroles etc. Try a site www. herbsfor life.com

Not exactly an herb, lol, but Lawry's Seasoned Salt goes on nearly all of my food--especially steak, yum yum!
Otherwise, Italian Spices or basil is good for almost any dish.
