Hey Mark's wife - 2 - B!
When my wife and I were to get married, her mother had these plans for a reception that would have made a state dinner look like a hot dog cook-off! There were two caterers, an expensive hall, flowers from every florist that she could find in the pages of the phone book :-s !
Kathy & I needed a break, so one weekend we went up to Northern California to go hiking, we came across this older church, nothing spectacular, and we started talking... to make a long story short,
Our wedding and reception was at a small white church in Long Beach, California. We served fried chicken and all the fixins on picnic tables set-up behind the church. We had no live band but we did have music. The children were able to run around and chase each other. We had a country wedding and neither of us are from the country or the South.
My wife has been gone for 15 years now, but I still have my favorite picture. It is Kathy, resting against an oak tree in the church yard. Sleeping on her lap is our flower girl. Kathy is playing with the flower girls hair by touching the baby's breath that was in the hair.
That day, TRULY was about love and families!
I hope you have a blessed day, no matter what you serve!
Congratulations!
James in San Diego

properly i can inform you that i do compared to fried chicken. i become born and raised in France so of route it is unparalleled yet I did try it purely to understand some thing about it. i did not like it in any respect, it is purely too greasy i'm no longer used to it. at the same time as all you had growing up and residing in France is the french food it is extremely complicated to target to get familiar with southern cooking or perhaps take exhilaration in it. no longer criticizing it do purely no longer like it. i ought to imagine that is in hardship-free words a southern component. And chicken has continually been somewhat a lot less intense priced than steak and lobster.. each and every usa or area meals custom..

I definitely think you and your fiance should have whatever food you want to have at your reception! And if you can find a caterer to make all those different dishes, more power to you! It is your celebration so it should be the two of you that make the choice of what food to serve. By having so many options, everyone should be pleased with something. And if not, invite them to have an extra piece of cake!

Its a good idea, but it has to be presented right. Fried Battered Drumsticks with a bit of foil around the bone is excellent finger food, and not as messy as it could otherwise have been, especially with a couple nice dips (one hot sauce, one creamy, and a Jack Daniels flavoured bbq one).

Chicken would be great. Also think about serving a non-meat dish as well - like a pasta salad or something like that.
I say - serve what you both enjoy. My son got married last year, and they wanted pizza - so that's what we had a pizza party and then had the wedding cake and groom's cake.
Everyone loved it - it was relaxed, fun and just perfect for the couple.
So - I would say serve what you would like.

No, not too country! It's your wedding reception - right? Sounds great to me. Of course, I'm from the South too!

I really don't think so. Unless it is like from McD's or Church's chicken or something. Everyone loves chicken and I bet if you have a lot of kids there, that food item would be a fav.

If you live in the South they'll expect fried chicken, especially if it's on a Sunday. We love our chicken!

just choose whatever you want to have at the reception, it's your day, not somebody else's. It's a day you will live only once, (there's a first wedding only once) you wanna make it happy in all aspects.

NO WAY! It's your wedding. You can do totally whatever you want. Besides, everyone likes fried chicken, and for those who haven't tried it, they'll like it.
