I requested my ob/gyn send me for a blood test to see if I am carrying the HSV1/HSV2 antibodies, and the test results came back I do have these antibodies in my blood. My doctor tells me that even though the antibodies are present, I have not yet been dioagnosed with anything because the only way to be sure is a culture of an actual outbreak. He has consulted with another doctor who is the head of the neonatal unit and he advised I should be put on acyclovir as a precaution because even though I have never had an outbreak that I have been aware of he said I may have had outbreaks on my cervix and never would have known(The only reason I had asked for the blood test because my husband had been getting a rash now and again since we started dating, we had just thought it was an irritation due to detergent or something, but once I got pregnant I wanted to make sure it was nothing) I have read my baby can die or be injured for life and am very worried, what are the odds of this happening?

Thank you for the quick responses. My husband had what looked like a rash right below the band of his boxers, but it has come back time to time alwasy in the same spot, again never thought anything of it. I have had more partners than my husband before we met, but again I had not had any symptoms that I am aware of and he never had anything like this until after we had met. I have spoke to my doctor and asked about the c section, he seems to be very unconcerned like there is really not much risk involved at all because I have not officially been diagnosed, but from what I have read on the internet it seems very serious which is why I was hoping that someone out there may have had experience with this situation ;-/ Again, he has consulted with the head of the neonatal unit at the hospital where I am delivering and he said with teh anti-viral meds the outlook is good, but I am skeptical of the docs where my baby is concerned.

you don't have to have an outbeak in order to spread the virus!

you can give it to your baby - it could even get it in his/her eyes which may result in blindness.

A c-section can reduce the possibility of spreading it to your baby.

You really should be talking to your doctor about this!

The herpies virus need the amino acid "Arginine" to thrive/multiply. Here are some foods high in Arginine - avoid them: wheat, peanut butter, chocolate...

The amino acid Lysine can help to surpresse the virus. Milk and eggs have high amounts of lysine. You can also take Lysine supplements. It is usually recommended that you take about 2 grams (2,000 mg) a couple of times/day.

Take a look at:

Ask a pharmasist, but i am pretty sure that taking large amount of Lysine will not have any adverse effects on your baby.

We the surfers of cyber world meet with so many people every day. Surfing the net is the best pastime one can ever develop, as internet has the most knowledge, a surfer will never have to wait for a answer. The vast knowledge of cyber world is nothing as compared to the cyber society that it gives. Internet is a community but so vast that we need a place to make conversation easy. What more can be better than a chat room for this purpose, well a chat room and a message board along with a forum is the best combination really. I was actually looking for a place where we can find all these things with a profile and photo brouse option. Finally I got this site, this place is a very nice community where we can share every thing online. And also about the leader board, I must tell it is great. The thought of the leader board is unique, as not to many people has thought about this thing. And the method of getting the leader is very different and one must check out this site once. The cyber culture is growing, and it is about time that we find our club and that to a very different club, which is not a part of any big website house like the yahoo and google. This site am talking about has every thing that a cyber surfer ever wants. This is the website address, http://www.friendscyberclub.com/ Features of this site is: 1) chatting 2) view profiles and photos 3) upload your photos and make a cool profile. 4) your message board 5) forum 6) See your name on the leader board. The best thing to do is 2 talk to your ob/gyn to find out whether u should have a regular delivery or a c-section. I have read online that if a mother is pregnant it is usually better to do a c-section in order for the mother not to pass it onto the baby b/c, like u said, the baby may may die, or be injuried for life. Please speak with your ob/gyn or/and family dr.

Pregnant women with the herpes simplex infection should receive weekly viral cultures of the cervix and external genitalia as the delivery date approaches. At the time of delivery, if active lesions are present, or if the viral culture is positive for herpes, a cesarean delivery (C-section) is recommended to avoid infecting the newborn.

Its very UNCOMMON for your baby to die bc u have herpes. Im guessing they think that you contracted genital herpes from your husband. You CAN pass this onto the baby, but ONLY if you have it vaginally. If you have a c section im pretty sure the chances are slim. as far as having herpes on the cervix... i cant comment bc ive never heard of that. Good luck. sorry to hear. this is unfortunate. but congrats on ur baby@!

I would have your ob/gyn schedule you for a c-section when it is time for delivery, and then have the child's blood tested regularly.
