I'm still waiting for my lab results, but the doctor said he was going to treat me for PID. I really doubt I got it from an STD. I was douching once a week, sometimes more for 3 months, so I think that may be why I have an infection. Even though it is not from an STD, I don't want to have sex if there's a possiblity of spreading PID to my partner. And, I had sex with him before I found out about the PID - is there a possibility of reinfection if I have sex with him after my infection has cleared up?

PID is a generalized complication of long-term infection and inflammation. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are the leading causes of PID, and they are sexually transmitted. However you can get PID from prolonged bouts of bacterial vaginosis and other forms of vaginitis.

The thing is, some of these infections (BV, vaginitis) are not traditionally considered to be sexually transmitted, HOWEVER, depending on the germ, you *may* be able to pass it sexually.

Do you know what caused your PID? Have you taken the medications to cure the original infection that caused the PID?

If you have been cured of the original infection and are just dealing with the after-effects of the PID (infertility, pain, etc) now, then you won't be contagious to your partner.

NO, the only things that can be spread by sex are semen and STDs.
