That depends on your budget and number of people. If it's a small gathering, go for steaks, brats, scallops (stick them on a skewer), and grill up some veggies. If you are expecting a lot of people, do the usual -- hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, chips.

Beef Brisket, you can put it on the barbeque and let it cook really slow for a long time. Put a good dry spice rub on it first. When its nice and tender (about 3-4 hours) take it off the heat, Put it in a paper sack for about 1 hour, then shred it up with forks or fingers, add your favorite barbeque sauce and serve on hamburger buns with coleslaw and pickles. Beef Brisket is fairly inexpensive and a whole one can feed a crowd of people.

Happy Birthday!!

Cube a bunch of chicken breasts & marinate in Italian Dressing. Cut up onions & red & green peppers. Wash and cut mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Throw all the veggies in a huge bowl, provide a grill and skewers, and have everyone design their own shish-kabob. They're delicious and healthy, and beautiful, too.Serve with rice and crusty bread.
You an also put sliced zucchini or yellow squash in the veggies.

Since cooking for a lot of people can get expensive, I would stick to cooking something like hamburgers and hot dogs.

It is always fun to have a meal you can eat all with your hands, example: Hamburger/Hotdog, Chips, Corn on the cobb, french fries, Raw Vegies with dip, etc... Being interactive with the food tends to make peole more interactive with each other.

How about a pasta salad to go with whatever meat you choose. Cook a package of pasta (I like the pasta that is different colored). Once the pasta is cooled, add one can of chopped black olives (drained), a package of pepperoni, shredded cheese and grape tomatoes. Add a bottle of italian dressing, mix well. That's it!!! It is ready to serve. Make sure you refrigerate any leftovers.

Have hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers. Also make some side dishes like potato salad, deviled eggs, or just go simple and have chips.
