They feel threatened because by not eating meat you are saying that eating meat is wrong, and since they do eat meat they feel you are passing judgment on their actions. Also I think a lot of people do subconsiously feel guilty or uncomfortable with the way animals are treated, and to counteract this guilt they lash out and overdefend their behavior, trying to reassure themsleves more than anyone that they are doing the right thing. It's sort of like the way people who are the most homophobic often end up being gay themselves.

That's just the way it is...I have a step daughter who is very fanatical about animal rights and not eating meat. She is very lonely due to the fact she isolates herself from everyone when it comes to food. She is still very young and has been told it is so very wrong to eat meat. It is up to her but i see how it affects her social life and it is sad. People will all ways tease you if you do something out of the ordinary.

Because we are concerned for your long term health.

A very large portion of Asians are veggies, they lack stamina, as can be seen from sporting events. there are no long distance runners from India for instance.

The most successful athletes are Africans, they eat meat and drink blood.

Meat is good for you, fact.

I eat veggie meals every week but Sunday would not be Sunday without a good roast joint and seven veg.

The whole threatened thing for sure. I was a vegan in college and this one guy who ate lunch with my group of friends would be so obnoxious about eating dairy and animal products...trying to make me upset. BUT he never did. I simply told him that veganism was my decision and if he wants to eat meat, go for it....a few months later he became vegan...the preachy kind...

The wacko's in the vegetarian movement are the reason. A "wacko" is one: who thinks that Jesus was a vegitarian; who condemns people for eating meat; who would make it a law to outlaw eating meat if they could.

Most of us omnivores are okay. Hope this answers your question, because my steak is ready.

They probably subconsciously feel threatened and feel they have to justify their meat-eating to you by criticising vegetarianism. Stereotypically, vegetarians are seen as preachy and judgmental about other's habits. The best thing we can do to combat that, is simply to keep on being polite and open-minded. Don't let them get you down. :)

Being vegitarian or vegan brings out a positive vibe that people are scared of because, it is change and try to make us look stupid or like we are harming ourselves to better themselves. I guess we are easy targets.

Probably because other Vegetarians have preached to them and are just frustrated by it. They probably mean no harm.

Because they feel like they have to really justify themselves - you have done something positive about a belief that you have... they have done nothing but still subscribe to whatever indoctrination they were fed as children.

I know what you mean, I don't know why they do that. I once had a coworker tell me I was disgusting because I didn't eat meat. I still don't understand that statement.
