Your doctor most likely did a pap smear to see if there were warts inside your vagina and on your cervix. These are harder to treat once they get in side the vagina, rather than just the outside. If your doctor found something in there they would have told you.
They also might have done it to make sure you don't have any abnormal cells on your cervix. HPV can cause cervical cancer for women. If you have genital warts, you have HPV. Having a pap smear done is the best thing a women can do to make sure nothing abnormal is happening to the cervix. It is the best detection of abnormal cells which can lead to cervical cancer.
I had the same thing happen when I had genital warts. The doctor did a physical exam and did a pap smear. I've had two abnormal pap smears, the first one turned into cancer when I was just 17 years old!

Genital warts are caused by the HPV virus....there are about 100 different strains of this virus, 30 of which are sexually transmitted. Out of the 30, there are some strains that cause genital warts and other types that cause cervial changes that may lead to cancer if not detected early, through a pap smear, and treated. More than likely, your doctor was doing a pap to see if you may have been exposed to other strains of the virus that could lead to cervical cancer.

this is what happens. you probably have HPV becuase the most common side effect is gential warts. thats how i found out i have it. i got all these teeny tiny bumps on my vaginal opening. and i showed it to my boyfriend at the time and he said to wait it out and see if they go away. (worst advice ever) becuase when they are small they dont itch or anything. they start to multiply. (like stray cats) finally i went to my doctor to have them looked at and they told me i have HPV so i had to go to a specialist to get them treated. So i did and trhey tested me for cervical cancer twice just to be sure. and i didnt have that kind thank god. so first i was given this cream that helped get rid of the warts but wasnt working fast enough for me because it was effecting my work cuz i was depressed and constantly going to the bathroom cuz it was the only place i was calm. and didnt itch as bad. after about a month i went back and told them i wanted the cutting/freezing off of the warts surgery. so we scheduled it for the next couple weeks. and i wsa put under. They took care of it and when i woke up they were all gone and they gave me meds but i wasnt in that much pain, but i took them anyway. once i had to pee i was so happy i looked at my vagina and it looked normal again.
if you wanna know what it looked like after having them there for 3 months. this of a head of Cauliflower. thats whta they looked like.

Genital warts are not cancer, which the pap smear checks for.
