I've been taking Advair 250/50 for about 6 years now and I bruise extremely easily. Is anyone else having these symptoms? I also have the excessive belly fat I have heard about from Advair. I have started searching for alternative ways to treat Asthma besides this drug. Does anyone have any info they can give me on herbal remedies or things they have done to ease their Asthma symptoms? I recently reduced my dosage to 100/50 to see if that makes any difference. I have tried to go without the Advair but my asthma symptoms appear very quickly without it. I really want to get off of this medication! Any advice is appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, advair does not cause bruising. However, call your doctor and discuss it with him.

Please DO NOT decrease or stop this medication without medical assistance! You can do serious damage to your liver not to mention put your life at risk via your asthma. "Herbal" remedies will not help your asthma. Please stick to real medication. If you are not happy with advair, return to your doctor and request that you be changed to a different medication.

Believe me, asthma is nothing to fool around with and a severe attack can be fatal so medical care is essential.

I've never heard of bruising with Advair. I do believe that it can be a side effect of steroid drugs like prednisone tho. I often lose my voice when using Advair. I looked this up on the package insert and it is called Dysphonia. It is very annoying. The dysphonia makes me feel weak and ineffective at work and talking on the phone difficult. BUT, it is still better to breathe than to talk - so it is a trade off. For me, I do not take it year round. I usually start taking it when I have to use the inhaler 2-3 times a week. For you - have you been allergy tested and know what your allergy triggers are? If you know what triggers the attacks and can seek allergy treatment like getting shots, then you may be able to ease off on the Advair part of the time. There are some other asthma drugs that your doctor might be able to suggest. My daugher takes Singulair and Foradil and they work well for her. It is a good idea to talk to your doctor about your symptoms and also for advice before you cut down or quit the Advair. As you've said, these medications can cause severe symptoms if you stop taking them quickly.

I took advair myself for several years but till I seen your question I hadn't thought about it at the time , I don't take it any longer but do remember bruising much more than I do now . I also had other problems with it such as thrush , no matter how much I rinsed my mouth afterward I still got it frequently . I now use another drug which hasn't produced the symptoms I had from advair and it is called spiriva and it is also an inhaler . Mine was prescribed by my pulmonary specialist as I have severe copd . Ask your doctor if this would be a suitable alternative. PS - the Spiriva also works much better for me than the advair.
