My poor poor little kitten took a sudden turn for the worse yesterday. She had a grub in her neck a month ago and has since recovered (with vet & antibiotic). Now, however, she is REALLY sick - fever, walking around in cirlces, has a lazy paw, glazed over eyes, sleeping all the time. The Vet thinks she must have another grub that has migrated to her brain. Has this ever happened to anyone's pet before? The vet didn't seem to think it was too serious - he took her in for observation for a day and half and is giving her antibiotics. We now have her home and her condition hasn't improved. Vet said once the grub works it's way out (burrows a breathing hole through her skin) she should be okay. This is really hard to believe, since she now seems inches away from death. We are so sad, especially b/c we can't do anything. We're feeding her with an eyedropper b/c she can't eat. And we've got antibiotics for her twice a day. Help! Please someone tell me some good news. Thanks.

The kitten started having very bad seizures and we ended up having to put her down. It is so unfortunate - thank you everyone for your comments.

I had a horse once that didn't duck when it ran under an apple tree and punched a hole through it's skull. The vet college removed ten percent of her brain in reparing her and the only permanent damage she suffered was slight vision loss in one eye. Most of the brain is not used for motive/cognitive function so your kitten may be fine.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had a kitten who had a warble in his head behind his ear. He has a scar now. It wasn't too serious, except for the fact that he got it when he was about 4 - 5 weeks old. I took him to the vet and the vet put petroleum jelly or something on it and drew the warble out. My cat is perfectly fine now, I still own him and he's about 2 years old now. If the vet says she'll be ok, then she should be ok... If you're that worried, maybe you should take her to a better vet? It only took my kitten's warble about 2 days to come out, and it wasn't burrowed in very deep.

I'm not a vet, but those sound like SERIOUS neurological symptoms. If a grub has borrowed into her brain, then it has likely caused brain damage, which in most cases is irreversible. You may have to consider euthanasia at this point... I would talk to another vet for a second opinion, no matter what.

I have NEVER heard of a bot/warble burrowing in it's brain. Are you sure he isn't talking about an intestinal parasite migrating into the brain? It sounds more serious than the vet is saying. Has any bloodwork been done? Intestinal parasite check?

I'm so sorry to hear about your sick kitty. You either have to trust your vet and follow your vet's instructions or take your kitty somewhere else for another opinion. Maybe you need to call your vet and tell him that your kitty's condition is getting worse.

I hope everything works out okay.
