You can if you want! There are all kinds of vegetarians. Some eat no meat, eggs or fish. Some eat chicken and fish only, some just eggs, etc. Some are doing it for their health, some just don't like the taste of meat, some for the animals' welfare. Some animal rights people will not eat anything even meat product based, while others are ok with it as long as the animal was free range or hand harvested, not mass produced and tortured first. You would only be breaking your own rule regardless, who cares. There are no set rules. Vegetarians and vegans turn on each other on this issue. Your only not a true vegetarian if the person judging you doesn't eat something that you do basically! Tell them to mind their own!

It all depends on the "level" of vegetarianism. Some eat dairy, some eat chicken, some eat fish. Why don't you just start with giving up red meat. It's pretty easy, and you can replace it with other things. I love soy products. I've been eating tofu and soy, veggie products for about a year now, and love the taste. Once you start there, just start eliminating things over a period of time.

Giving up meat is a very healthy choice. If you want to include fish and shellfish in your diet, you will be a Pescatarian, not a Vegetarian. Fish are the most healthy meat you can eat, so I recommend you go ahead and try Pescatarianism for a while... it's good for you, and you'll feel great!

If your going for an official "vegetarian" diet, then no, shrimp would not be allowed. I myself don't eat meat or poultry, but I do eat seafood. You will still be eating alot healthier of you give up other meats than seafood.

Shrimp is an animal. Vegetarians dont eat animals. The easiest way to start is to use soya products like Boca, Morningstar farms and Quorn.

Any reduction of meat eating uses less animals and in the long run you can save a cow or two and a few hundred chickens. Don't think it has to be all or nothing, every little bit counts. Be mostly veg and eat well.

I have friends that don't eat meat but still eat seafood--just make sure that you are replacing the protein and vitamins that you are losing because of not eating meat
